Bush faces political nightmare if Democrats win
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N19394537.htm

WASHINGTON, Oct 22 (Reuters) - If Democrats win control of the U.S. Congress in the Nov. 7 election, it would turn the Capitol upside down and create a political nightmare for the already embattled President George W. Bush.

If his Republicans lose the majority, Bush would hear newly empowered calls to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq and would suddenly face promised Democratic-led congressional investigations with subpoena power into the unpopular war.

Bush, whose public approval ratings are below 40 percent, would also face Democratic demands he offer "mainstream" rather than "right-wing" judicial nominees if he wants them confirmed.

Bush's fellow Republicans applied a rubber stamp to much of his conservative agenda the past six years, including tax cuts that went largely to the rich. snip

Democrats deny Republican claims they would try to impeach Bush and remove him from office.

Instead, they plan to push their own agenda, "A New Direction for America," which includes raising the federal minimum wage for the first time in a decade, ending some tax breaks to oil companies and making college more affordable by reducing federal student loan interest rates.

Democrats also promise to implement recommendations from the 9/11 Commission to bolster security, ease the threat of global warming and, in response to influence-peddling scandals on Capitol Hill, clean up the way Congress does business.

3. The country as a whole can expect the nightmare
because anything a Democratic Congress sends to that man will be vetoed simply because it came from a Democratic Congress.

That's just how he and his gang think, this all or nothing, take no prisoners, no possible compromise with the "enemy," which is me and thee and the majority party in this country.

They may have no choice but spend the last 2 years of his stolen, rotten presidency in removing him, trying him, and imprisoning him.

Don't remember where, but someone speculated exactly this
would be the drill and then in '08, "Democrats can't get anything done."

4. Bush has held the top job for 6 years and has wielded its
attendant power irresponsibly.

He gets what he pays for.

5. Welll, if you don't do anything wrong, you don't HAVE to worry
about investigations and subpoenas, now do ya?

Sorry Shrub, but that's the chance you took when you ignored our laws and our Constitution. Now you have to pay the price!

9. That's true, and if you recall, it was BC's mistake of lying to the
court that finally got him in trouble! I understand why he did it, and I also think lmost every cheating spouse does the same thing. THEY don't usually get charged with purgury, but that was all the Pubs ever found!

Also remember they tried to hang Carter and went after himabout some BS about his peanut farming. Carter turned over all his paperwork, and said ask what you want, and checkwhatever you wish. The Pubs did, and found NOTHING, so the problem went away!

11. I think a lot of the Puggy beliefs about Dms arise from projection.
They thought about all the ways THEY would cheat if they were peanut farmers, then convinced themselves that must be what Carter was doing. They can understand any form of chicanery, but honesty is uterly incomprehensible to them.

7. I relish the thought of being his worst nightmare! Some nice
congressional inquiries into the lies, deceit, and corruption will certainly prime the pumps for us to take back the WH for at least the next 8 years, so we can straighten this mess out for the American people.

8. but they won't...
like in Iran-Contra and even Watergate, they will allow the worst offenses to remain unpunished 'for the good of the country'.

Most of America would be surprised what DIDN'T come out in the Watergate scandal that was being talked about at the time.

13. Well, let's hope the nightmare closet is well stocked.
With subpoenas, warrants, indictments, and resolutions for impeachment.
