As a citizen of this country, I bear the responsibility for George W. Bush as much as any other citizen does. Even though I didn't vote for him, my fellow Americans did and that is a cross that I have to bear as much as the next person. Silence implies consent, and anyone that is not marching in the streets against this regime has consented, whether they like it or not. For decades, Republicans have touted themselves as the party of fiscal responsibility. However, we gave a drunk frat Republican boy a checkbook with lots of money and lots of checks. We are now left with a big fat overdraft and yet he continues writing checks to his croneys to further their financial interests. All I have been hearing from Republicans is that Democrats are going to raise our taxes. Be afraid, higher taxes, they say. I will have to say if my party doesn't raise taxes, I will be highly disappointed in the citizenry of this country. It is unconscionable for us to have elected this President who has bankrupted our country through his elite cronyism and vague wars. We are in the midst of two wars with possibly two more on the horizon. As citizens, we have not been asked to sacrifice as much as we should have. I believe in the Pottery Barn rule--we broke Iraq, and we need to fix it. However, we have also broke this country and have to be willing to fix it as well. I, for one, do not think it is either morally or fiscally responsible to leave our overdraft checking account for our kids and grandkids to have to deal with, while still expecting them to pay THEIR bills. We are supposed to leave things better than we found them. If we don't do something soon, it will be too late for that. It is time for some serious discussion in this country about how we are going to pay the bills. Our consent--implied or otherwise--for this regime DEMANDS that we pay the bill for the damage we have done. To leave it for the next generation is appalling.
