Helping them "over there" so we don't have to help them over here
Change ONE word of George's manifesto, and most of our "problems" disappear.

Instead of FIGHTING "them", we could, with probably ¼ of the money we spend now, make living in their own countries worthwhile.

In recent years, we seem to have adopted a belligerence that is toxic...to us and to the rest of the world.

People everywhere want the SAME things:

a decent place to live
nutritious food
education for their kids
a way to make money to support themselves..

That's really all people want & need..and ALL people want and need those things..everywhere.. (even in 3rd world countries).

We can spend ourselves silly building walls, fences, space-laser-shoot-em-downs, and enlisting the dark side to go out and stir up pots of trouble everywhere...OR
we could engage in REAL foreign policy that matters to the people who always scatter to the winds as refugees..

People who are comfortable in their own countries do not flood into other countries, destabilizing and taxing their fragile infrastructures.

By lifting up the poorest, we could create harmony, and would have the money and time to address the environmental problems that are facing all of us .

War generates huge profits for a few, but peace might be more profitable..

we ought to try it sometime

1. That seems to answer a lot of the problems this world faces. I
hope that the help will reflect the real concerns of the world instead of the corporation centered IMF and World Bank tact. That is the reason nothing we have tried in the past has been very successful. I would like to see a movement to make every country/region as self sufficient as possible. Simple Living for everyone. That of course would mean we in the US have a long way to go in our own country.

2. It HAS to work bottom-UP, instead of Top-DOWN..like we do now
We "give" money & aid to the leaders, who promptly pocket it.:(

3. How utterly naive of you.
Best thing I've read here all day.

And, yes, for all of you pragmatists, I will indeed sing kumbaya.
