North County Times Reports on Grand Jury Investigation of Bilbray

Startling allegations about Brian Bilbray are continuing to emerge. This
morning, the North County Times reported that a "grand jury investigation
of Republican Brian Bilbray's legal residency" is under way. Air America
is discussing it as well. As we speak, the District Attorney's office is
investigating the Voter Registration form signed by Mr. Bilbray under
penalty of perjury. The investigation could result in charges of election
fraud, tax fraud and even perjury.

When Brian Bilbray won the special election, who could have imagined he
would follow in Randy "Duke" Cunningham's footsteps? I believe the voters
of our district deserve better from their elected officials - don't you?

Right now, Brian Bilbray is trying to cover up this investigation. Don't
let him sweep this under the rug! Join me in changing the course of the
country. Forward the article to everyone you know. Spread the word - tell
Brian Bilbray that you will hold your elected officials responsible for
their actions.

Please forward this article:

Call Brian Bilbray and ask him, "Are you being investigated by a Grand
Jury?"

Bilbray's legislative office: (760) 737-8438

Campaign office: (858) 457-5500

We must put an end to the corruption and arrogance that has led our
country in this dangerous direction.

Francine Busby

1. I guess this is her "Hail Mary pass"
Sorry to see her put into a position where she feels this kind of tack is appropriate.

5. I agree.
This sort of nonsense hurts all Democrats.

15. Are you sure it's nonsense?
The voting machines stayed at pajama parties at the workers' homes the night(s) before. It takes about 11 minutes I believe I heard to change the machines to change votes, etc.

This sort of complacency gets Democrats NOTHING. I'm tired of nothing from our 'leaders.' I am still disgusted that they didn't all fight when Gore was cheated in 2000.

No more sitting on the couch and bitching is what it's going to take.

6. On the other hand...
...if it is true, she should emphasize it. I'm sure her opponent would beat her over the head with it if the situation was reversed.

Besides, it would fit nicely with the "culture of corruption" branding.

9. Why? Aren't these the same people, generally, who nitpicked Donna Frye
And refused to allow her to take office based on technicalities?

The 50th Congressional District covers large areas of northern San Diego County outside the city of San Diego. Only part of the city is in the 50th.

I happen to live in both the 50th and the city of San Diego. The ballot instructions were clear enough to me. But I happen to be an experienced computer systems administrator, so it was obvious to me you had to check the box by the name you write in, to get the vote counted.

14. Nevertheless, voter intent was clear in the Frye case
I work in the legal field, and I know when the spirit of the law should triumph over the letter of the law, and that was such a case.

Just like the Gore ballots that were disqualified because people had both punched and written "Gore". The intent of the voter is paramount.

16. Didn't she 'win' by 5,000 votes
only to have the repubs scrub them even though voter intent was clear. Even with a margin that large, the SD repubs weren't going to let her win. And look at what a disaster the 'elected' repub mayor was -- gone after one year, wasn't it (pardon my memory)?

10. Well, if Busby, who would put up with Diebold touchscreens spending
a couple of days in election officials' car trunks or garages, thinks there is enough to this to put out an alert, I'd say she probably knows more. You're quick to say it's a "Hail Mary pass" even though she cites three sources. Anyway, why SHOULDN'T she throw a "Hail Mary pass"? Whose side are you on, Slackmaster? You think Bilbray--whom Hastert swore in before the vote counting in the special election was even finished--is clean on this? I've read some of the details in other threads, and I sure don't. Bilbray owes the voters an explanation, if he has one. Why should Busby pass this up? Hm?

13. I voted in that election - We did not have touch-screens in our precinct
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 05:53 PM by slackmaster
I voted on a paper ballot with a pen, and fed it into an optical scanner that looks uncomfortingly similar to a paper shredder, sitting on a wimpy cardboard box.

Francine may have cited three sources, but unfortunately none of them are authoritative and the people who really do know have all declined to comment.

Anyway, why SHOULDN'T she throw a "Hail Mary pass"?

Where did I say we shouldn't?

But like a Hail Mary pass in football it is a risky strategy. If it backfires, anyone who Francine Busby runs against in the future will dredge it up as a "dirty trick".

Whose side are you on, Slackmaster?

MINE!

Now get on your face and give me 50!

4. "heard reports" from unnamed sources isn't going to convince many
People who have made up their minds to vote for Bilbray are not likely to be swayed, especially if this turns out not to be true.

That would be sure to make some people nervous.
