Ford: "party that took hush money from a child predator" Not Moral!
This is a great line that should be used by all Dems.

"I'm not going to take a lecture on morality from a party that took hush money from a child predator,"

Ford Uses Foley to Deflect NRSC's Playboy Attack
October 05, 2006 9:42 AM

ABC's Teddy Davis reports: Rep. Harold Ford (D-TN) seized on the cybersex scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) Wednesday to deflect a question about an NRSC ad which asks: "What kind of man parties with Playboy Playmates in lingerie then films a commercial in a church pew?"

"I'm not going to take a lecture on morality from a party that took hush money from a child predator," said Ford Wednesday in Memphis, TN after speaking to the downtown Kiwanis Club.

The NRSC based its ad on a Feb. 8, 2005 Roll Call story by Mary Ann Akers which had a source saying that Rep. Ford was spotted at that year's Playboy Super Bowl party in Jacksonville, FL.

Rep. Ford, the bachelor son of a former congressman, is regularly maligned by the NRSC as "Fancy Ford."

He is running against former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker for the seat being vacated by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN).

4. He's being attacked because he was at a party?
I despise Playboy and everything it stands for but I can't see what the problem is with him merely attending a Super Bowl party sponsored by them.

5. I haven't seen the Playboy attack ad,
but I live in Memphis. Corker knows that shit wouldn't play well in Ford's hometown.

6. It plays non-stop in Nashville.
I really think that it will backfire on them. I mean, I was expecting them to run a whisper campaign - Unmarried Congressman in his thirties, must be gay......(And note, they started running the playboy ad BEFORE the Foley scandal blew up).

7. Haven't seen that ad lately though.
All I see lately is the ad reminding everyone of "69 privately funded junkets" and "365 missed votes" by Ford. His reply to that smear was quite good during Wednesday's debate.

Most of the trips were to speak for non-profit and charity organizations, and IMHO I'd much rather them be privately funded instead of tax-payer funded. (And don't you just love the word "junket!" It just sounds so much nastier than just calling them "trips"!) And those missed votes still come up to a 93% voting record; most that were missed were proceedural or so one-sided that Ford's vote would have been meaningless. They make 365 sound so terrible, but that is still less that 40 per year. I'll take that anyday!

Kinda hard to hint that Ford's age and marital status might mean he's gay if in the next breath you want to accuse him of being a playboy. And I'm sure most in the GOP would give their left nut if all Foley was guilty of was attending a party with some centerfolds.
