The GOP is Exploiting the Plane Crash to Rev Up Terra Fears
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 09:21 AM by Stephanie

Pataki's on now spouting the talking points. New Yorkers should be very afraid! Americans should be fearful! Anybody and his brother can pilot a small plane around New York City and fly straight into your apartment window. Be afraid! Terra Terra Terra! Vote Republican or else you're helping the terrorists! Forget Foley. Foley who?

1. When I first heard of the crash..
I thought that the Rs must have secretly been stoked because they could legitimately play the fear card again without some bullshit raising of the terruh alert.

4. said that yesterday
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 09:29 AM by radfringe
in one of the postings related to the plane crash..

the repubs would use this to ramp up the fear factor... IT COULD HAVE BEEN A TERROR ATTACK!!! IT COULD HAVE HAD NOOO-KLEEE-AIR weapons on it!!!

dem response should be two-prong:

1. Apparantly we are not as safe as the Republicans have said. Wish the republicans would make up their minds - are we safer or not?

2. When you need to divert attention from scandals - you run on the one issue you have left. In this instance, the republicans are using the tragic accident to ramp up the fear

factor.

9. No, our response should be, "don't worry"
Our response should be as to a small child, "this is nothing to worry about, accidents happen."

14. Gotta disagree there.
What this accident proves is they have done NOTHING SUBSTANTIVE to increase the security of New York. Nothing.

A whole lotta signs about suspicious backpacks doesn't make up for doing nothing to upgrade air security. For not checking containers at our ports. It's all window dressing.

We haven't even tightened the licenses so that someone with inadequate experience isn't doing his practice flying on the EAST RIVER.

DON'T poo-poo it. ASK WTF New York is still a sitting duck target. Keep us safe, my ass.

Take their control of the issue right out of their hands.

5. Five years of Bushite tyranny since 9/11
If their job is to keep us safe, mark it as another MISERABLE FAILURE.

6. WE should be exploiting that plane crash
to point out that the Misadministration has done absolutely NOTHING to make us safer. This could have been a terrorist attack, and there was no mechanism in place to prevent it.

The plane could have been carrying explosives. It could easily have been loaded with the materials for a fertilizer-based bomb such as the one that leveled the federal building in Oklahoma City. All they would have to do is bring it in, stuffed in suitcases, a few at a time.

Suppose they had flown into the United Nations building complex (which is not too far from where the plane crashed) at a time when a major head of state was addressing the General Assembly? What would have stopped them?

Why aren't small planes required to file flight plans? Why isn't there more control over where they can and cannot fly? I'm no security expert, but surely there are ways to limit small plane flights over major residential/commercial areas such as Manhattan.

There is no way anyone could actually fly another plane into a building after 9/11. They make us safe.

That is why Homeland Security knew it was okay to slash funding to NYC.

Remember the Crop Duster Speech? I think Bush had been snorting the Crop Duster LOAD that day..

COULD have been a Flying Saucer too, what are they gonna do to protect us from ALIENS from Outer Space, the Martians might be terrorists for all we know - QUICK! Let's build a WALL Around the Earth!!

Binka's right, no one is listening...

Poor Condi, she could have NEVER imagined that a Plane could fly into a Building, having Never watched a WW2 Movie with Kamakazis in it.. Now a SHOE flying into a building, hmmmm... :)

11. Really? All it said to me was they haven't done SQUAT
To make me one tiny bit safer than I was on 9/11.

WTF did they spend the money on?

It was a thrill to know that any idiot could get into a small plane and fly over the East River cherrypicking his target. And it would take us hours to figure out who he was. Where he came from.

But the thing that really got me, was that the idiot didn't have to be a terrorist, it could just be an inexperienced pilot. Nothing has been done to keep this city safe from planes. Nothing.

Accidentally flying into a building isn't better to me than deliberately flying into it.

We are so fucking lucky that only homes were destroyed yesterday. That only nightmares were revisited and not the reality.

I'm also kinda glad Lidle didn't crash into the Statue of Liberty while he was "circling" it.

12. Well then, why wasn't the crash prevented from happening?
Do these IDIOTS ever listen to themselves? They want us to be afraid of every little thing and not question why they can't stop the very scenarios they try to make us afraid of. Who still falls for this absolute bull? No one questions them when they spew this crap. :argh:

13. But, the rich people gotta have their private planes...
to go joyriding in.

Meanwhile, the rest of us schmucks must endure and submit to interminably long lines and strip searches at the airports.

Oh, and phone tapping too.

I feel so safe.

15. Exactly. We are NOT safer.
All the money, all the alerts, all the confiscation of lotions has not made us one tiny bit safer.

THEY FAILED.

They didn't know who was in the air. They had no idea an inexperienced pilot was flying that close to New York homes until hours LATER.

They were told the small airports were security holes and THEY DID NOTHING.
