New Hastert spin: Democratic Leader Pelosi objected to FBI investigation
Oct. 10, 2006, 10:20AM
Hastert: Anyone hiding page issue leaves
By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Tuesday he'll dismiss anyone on his staff found to have covered up concerns about ex-Rep. Mark Foley"s approaches to former pages.

Hastert said he huddled with his staff last week and in that, in hindsight, the situation could have been better handled.

But he added, "If they did cover something up, then they should not continue to have their jobs."

Hastert, speaking to reporters in Aurora, Ill., said that if there was a cover up, it would come out when his staff members testified under oath before the ethics committee or FBI.

He also confirmed reports from last week that he initially had suggested having former FBI Director Louis Freeh head up a Capitol Hill inquiry on the page program, but that House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi objected.

2. Wait, in what way, at all, is this objecting to an FBI investigation?
Did anyone not notice that Freeh is retired, and that any Capitol Hill inquiry would be under the authority of the Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert himself!?!

Or did I just fall off the turnip truck?

I guess the OP is assuming this is the spin. The headline in the Chron for the AP story reads:

Hastert: Anyone hiding page issue leaves

The first paragraph (where the story is usually summarized) says:

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Tuesday he'll dismiss anyone on his staff found to have covered up concerns about ex-Rep. Mark Foley"s approaches to former pages...

3. Isn't it great how they
leave off parts of a story? Didn't she object because it was felt that Freeh couldn't be objective? Spin, bullshit spin.

8. Your headline is very misleading
Nobody objected to the FBI's ivestigation. Pelosi objected to the former FBI head (and GOP hack) leading an investigation because he IS a GOP hack.

10. HE DID NOT SAY HE WOULD DISMISS ANYONE AND PELOSI
DID NOT OBJECT TO AN INVESTIGATION. She objected to right wing stooge louie freeh heading up the investigation.

"should not continue to have their jobs" does not constitute he said he would dismiss them.

I would suggest that such heavy spinning would be bad for the health of a man in hastert's condition.

11. Pelosi
Did any of you see the video clip at CrooksandLiars? When this scandal first broke, Nancy Pelosi asked for an investigation (before the republicans) and the republicans in the house stood up and booed her...why aren't they playing that on the news. They never will. It shows the nature of the scandal.

13. FLASH FLASH FLASH PLEASE READ
Why don't we all flood CNN especially when they have this email flurry, and ask them where is the video clip that shows the republicans booing Nancy Pelosi when she was the first to ask for an investigation...
