7. Good morning.
It's always something. Shifting gears here, trying to catch up.

caller says-
"North Korea coddled by CLINTON."

From the Financial Times this morning:

Analysis: North Korea test a sign of weakness

By Stephen Fidler in London

Published: October 9 2006 10:37 | Last updated: October 9 2006 10:37

North Koreas probable test of a nuclear weapon on Monday has triggered the second nuclear crisis in 13 years on the Korean peninsula.

In 1993, North Korea announced it would pull out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, leaving it free to divert nuclear material from its energy reactors to make a nuclear weapon and setting off a round of crisis diplomacy led by the Clinton administration. The result was the so-called agreed framework, which in return for supplies of fuel oil to North Korea froze most aspects of Pyongyangs nuclear weapons programme for the rest of the decade.

The agreed framework was in effect consigned to history when the Bush administration came to power in 2001. The new administration argued that although the road to a plutonium-based nuclear bomb had been frozen, the North Koreans were cheating by attempting to develop a uranium-based bomb that was not explicitly addressed by the agreement.

That five years later, North Korea has tested a nuclear weapon will be widely interpreted as a sign of the failure of the tougher approach favoured by the Bush team.

9. Listening to the RWers quaking in their boots...
because there's a new boogyman coming after them, I'm becoming convinced that much of the intensity over gun rights is sheer fear of an inability to protect themselves from whatever might be lurking in the backyard.

11. Did you hear the guy about the inheritance tax in PA?
If you have no children or grandchildren, how much could it matter what percentage the state takes? And yes, I understand that there may be other relatives or charities you would want to give to, but that's a bit different.
The GOP ability to lie with a straight face is evidently highly prized.

12. He looked exquisitely bored with the entire thing.
I guess talking to common people really bums him out. He did warm to "Voter Fraud", though...
