Sorry, but I trust the USGS. They're not a partisan bunch and they say there has been no seismic activity on the Korean peninsula. 3.58 seems too significant for them to miss. NK isn't exactly known for being truthful.

Oddly, Fox News states, "North Korea Claims Test of Nuclear Weapon; U.S. Officials Can't Confirm," and contains no mention of the South Koreans detecting an explosion.

There has been nothing greater than a M_w 2.5 on the Korean Penninsula in over a week. I have no idea why SK geologists are saying this, but the rocks say nothing has happened.



ON EDIT: Now there does appear to be a M_w <4.0 in NE North Korea, three hours after the test supposedly happened... (supposedly 9:36 PM eastern time)

And honestly, it would be counterproductive to block out this information as the lack of any detected seismic activity at the world's premier earth sciences agency's website makes the whole thing look like a sham.

There should be a number of smaller quakes in the more active regions, but none are displayed. Alaska, Washington, and California are fairly well blanketed, but the smallest I can see on a world 'drill-down' map is a 4.3 near Fiji...
