4. I am new here
...and I haven't had time to learn all the features of this forum.I have been following Cindy to see how the movement is proceeding. I know she has been ill and underwent surgery. I also read a reponse that was posted at DU about her being a dead issue.....

6. Yes she had surgery about 6 weeks ago
but is back on the road after recovering at Willie Nelson's house. I had heard she may be going to Korea but I haven't gotten confirmation on that.

No I don't agree she is a dead issue. I consider her the leader of the peace movement. That movement is far from dead.

BTW, Welcome to DU :hi:

5. Seems you aren't looking in the right places
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 05:35 PM by lwfern
The best place to keep up with her is probably at Gold Star Families for Peace at http://www.gsfp.org/. A lot of her writing is there, including pieces from Oct 6, Sep 27, Sep 25, Sep 12, Sep 5, etc. Also, if you regularly read http://www.commondreams.org, which I recommend, you'll run across her there. And of course if you are working as an anti-war activist, it's quite likely you'll find yourself bumping into her eventually - or if not her, one of her fellow organization members, all of whom don't get near enough recognition for the roles they've taken on. She's the one the media has focused on, but folks like Dede, Bill Mitchell, Fernando Suarez Del Solar, Al Zappala, and many others, as well as the IVAW members, of course, are also traveling around the country speaking out against the war. They all deserve credit.

7. Ray McGovern was here last Wed
He was terrific! And of course, don't forget Ann Wright.

You can also usually find Cindy over at Truthout.

8. I feel weird about Ann Wright
Only because I was at an event and she made all the women vets come up and stand by her, so I did. And then she started talking about how we get forgotten when talking about PTSD and she was talking about all the challenges us female combat vets faced. I was in a strategic mission, stateside. Walking away from the group would have been all wrong, would have looked like a protest, but sheesh, that was uncomfortable.

That was followed up with me being quoted in an article, but misidentified as an Iraq vet. Yikes.

Love her, love what she's doing, but I'm gonna keep my distance from her in the future. :)

9. Oh I am so sorry to hear about that
I love Ann. She is definitely the camp mother at Camp Casey. But she is more and more in your face with her activism.

She was terrific in Austin at the Rove protest!

10. It's not that big a deal, really
She's great - and I have no problem with in your face activism. Activism isn't so useful when it's done in private, eh?

I just don't want to be seen as claiming to be a combat vet when I'm not - there's just something very pathetic about the folks that do that. Keeping my distance from her, though, is a little tongue-in-cheek. Guess that doesn't come across as well on a forum even with a smiley.
