GOP leaders chalk up one more disgrace
http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2006/10/08/editoria...

The Republican leadership in the House of Representatives has disgraced itself again.

Its handling of the Rep. Mark Foley scandal has been atrocious. House Speaker Dennis Hastert and other key GOP leaders reacted lackadaisically last year to the initial complaints from young congressional pages.

Then when ABC News made Foleys actions public, Hastert went into self-protection mode. He even attempted briefly to characterize it as a partisan attack, complaining to radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh that Democrats were trying to put us on defense.

Sheesh.

If Republican leaders had shown an interest in protecting young congressional pages from a predatory member that was anything close to the zeal with which they protect their partisan rule, they might have been able to salvage a shred or two of respect.

1. They don't care about young people and it shows.
Nor do they care about the elderly or practically anyone else. Just the few people who are in their circle, everyone else can fuck off and die. I hope more people are exposed to this line of thought. Repukes just don't care - Katrina, 911 and Iraq should be obvious signs.

2. channel surfing around the blatherhead shows

for the most part - with one lip they try to downplay the scandal and with the other lip try to blame it on everyone else

I even heard one repug try to blame it on DC itself - by saying DC's legal age of consent is 16 - therefore it's not a crime and DC is a big liberal town, whaddyaexpect anyways??

It's there new rubberstamp - "scandal? naw, it's no big deal"
