| Hate to ask this 'but did Rove et al pay off pages' families to shut up' |
|
I heard some where that the GOP were trying to keep the whole thing quiet and they tried to silence page families with payment. Is this true?

My money's on creative threats to the pages and/or their families.

future in politics and business NOT to be involved in any kind of investigation of a prominent Republican leader, expecially if they felt it was only words and no physical contact took place. i don't doubt that money may have been discussed...

Throw them ten, twenty thousand to shut up. Suddenly a 50 year old congressman hitting on your 15 year old son isn't such a big deal. Hell, might even help the son get into that Ivy League college, since he is probably too fucking stupid to get there on merit alone...

| 6. that's not likely. one page coming forward and refusing would be all it |
|
would take to completely destroy the republican party for good if that were attempted. risk would be too high.

| 7. not entirely. If just one comes forward, its easy to discredit |

Foleys mistake was resigning right away.
If he had stayed and fought, they could have put their attack machine into high gear and had this child discredited and destroyed in a matter of days.

| 8. I don't know, but it does appear as if Foley paid off Reynolds |
|
He "donated" $100,000 to Tom Reynolds and the Repub campaign committee right after this started to get exposed a few months ago.

| 11. GOP parents more concerned that THEIR kid might be perceived as gay |
|
and great god in heaven, what would their right-wing, anti-gay friends and neighbors think? They might be shunned at the country club. One of my uncles married a snooty GOP woman. They had and raised 4 boys in the country club set in a rich suburb. One of the boys (all in their 40's now) has never showed up at family reunions. Requests for his address and phone number were ignored. The deep dark secret was finally spilled by his oldest brother after one tee many martoonis - the missing brother was gay and had been ordered by his parents to make no contact with the rest of the family. Which all of us cousins agree is so pathetic, because his Mother was the only one who had any problem with his sexual preference. Sadly, none of the other 3 brothers has the balls to stand up to their domineering Mother.
I would expect the majority of parents, whether they are homophobes or not, of any GOP boy who's been through the page program are freaking out over this whole matter, one way or another.
