| 2. It's working for us right now |
|
Every conversation I have had about FoleyGate, someone brings up that show. They are associating Foley and the GOP with those pervs on TV. That can't be bad for us.
You however, are smart enough to turn the channel, yes?

Made me chuckle when I saw it on the cable guide.
Repugs must have loved it.

| 3. Those programs can be used over & over, topical programs |
|
with current news can only be played once. or twice. 3 months worth of those Stone Phillips things can last 2 years.

| 5. It's really helping their bottom line, and helps them afford OLBERMANN |
|
The strategy is called "doc block." It's a continuous rolling of documentaries having to do with prisons, crime, and punishment, along with the odd "headliner/legend" (but mostly criminals and troublemakers). It's Dan Abrams' idea. It ain't my choice, but it is making money for them. News junkies just have to move to CNN/Headline News/CNN-I if they have it or their local cable provider news outlet.
It's effective because it is CHEAP. You keep one newsreader, a cameraman and a sound tech on standby, sleeping on cots in case something HUGE breaks, but you don't need a full news crew. No one polishing up wire service reports, or anything of that nature. No reruns of hours-old news blocks, like CNN. The people who tune in tend to stay tuned in, because the shows keep changing, and then they fall asleep in front of the TV. Cheap and easy ratings!!!!!!

| 7. Yep. They need some more Olbermanns at night. |
|
Whenever I have a couple of minutes to veg in front of the TV and I want to watch some news I turn to MSNBC. It's just because they have Olbermann whereas CNN tries to be objective, which means giving air-time to crazy people. It's not easy, though, between prison shows, pedophile shows, half-woman-half-robot-from-the-future reporting live and direct, and Mr. Dancer.
But Olbermann is getting stronger and it seems like they appreciate what he's doing to their ratings so it's still going to be MSNBC for me...
