The next shoe to drop? Trandahl was fired after confronting Foley!
Check out this interesting little tidbit burried in todays WaPo story. ---

<SNIP>

As House clerk between January 1999 and November 2005, Trandahl had direct control over the page program.

Pages apparently saw Trandahl as a strict disciplinarian. In one instant-message exchange obtained by The Post, a former page, on his way to his first annual reunion in Washington, told Foley in January 2003 that "everyone is going to be pretty wasted a lot of the time in dc."

He then added, "well we dont have the clerk to fire us anymore. . . . we didnt like trandahl that much . . . he isnt a nice guy . . . and he gets really scarey when he is mad."

Trandahl's departure came within days of his confrontation with Foley over e-mails that the congressman had sent a former page. House aides say the circumstances of Trandahl's exit were oddly quiet. The departure of a staff member of long standing, especially one as important as the House clerk, is usually marked with considerable fanfare, said Scott Lilly, a former Democratic staff director of the House Appropriations Committee. Debate is suspended in mid-afternoon to accommodate a stream of testimonials from lawmakers.

Trandahl's departure was marked by a one-minute salute from Shimkus and a brief insert into the Congressional Record.

"My one-hour Special Order changed to a five-minute Special Order, now to a one-minute," Shimkus said. "I just want to say thank you for the work you have done."

1. Trandahl's firing means it is highly likely Hastert...
knew at least when he was fired. I don't think a person could be fired without Hastert knowing why.

:hi: Least I know I'm not the only one having troubles with the timing and other issues surrounding his departure.

4. A member of the board of the national gay rights group Human Rights Campai

......"My one-hour Special Order changed to a five-minute Special Order, now to a one-minute," Shimkus said. "I just want to say thank you for the work you have done."

Lilly said: "He seemed to suddenly disappear in a puff of smoke."

Trandahl, now the executive director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, has not returned repeated phone calls and e-mails.

Congressional aides point to another factor that links Trandahl to the Foley matter. A member of the board of the national gay rights group Human Rights Campaign, Trandahl is openly homosexual and personally close to the now-disgraced former lawmaker, who announced through his lawyer this week that he is gay.

10. And a nice cushy job to soothe his feelings
let bygones be bygones. One must keep silent upon the affairs of others except in cases of Murder and Treason.

Reminds me of that scene in Distinguished Gentleman:

Nuthin' like a nice warm Uzi.

12. Something is definitely rotten in Denmark.
I've not seen anything like this mad scramble. They blame each other, the Dems, the victims, spout crazy conspiracy theories, and contradict one another and themselves.

They are panicking trying to cover up something a lot bigger than Foley.

14. Could he be ABC's Republican ex-staffer leaker?
A Kos diarist has more plausibly suggested a former Alexander staffer, a woman, who had seen all the Louisiana emails and witnessed the coverup of that side of the story. But Trandahl would know more of the damning details of Foley's entire career and would have a revenge motive against the whole lot of them. Plus if he's an out gay man maybe his conscience finally got to him about all the closeted fiends running the party.

15. Apparently there were two series of "leaks" of the emails to the La. kid.
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 04:42 PM by Garbo 2004
First in November 2005 to St. Petersburg Press and then Miami Herald.

Then in the summer when other news outlets started receiving them. The summer "leaking" of the emails was reportedly by someone who had gotten them from a Republican (ex)staffer and was acting as a go between/buffer for the staffer to the media. This person apparently did not send the emails last fall to the Florida newspapers and doesn't know who did.
