Why can't I watch a baseball playoff game without hearing God
Bless America during the 7th inning stretch??

It it really necessary???....they play the national anthem before the game.

And then we need to hear God Bless America.....

What is this, church?

It just drives me out of my mind....please, please can't there be a separation of religion and baseball?

and it's disgusting it's shoved down our throats.....especially at a sporting event.

14. I'm very much in favor of the "press 1 for English," because I know
it wrecks the lives of so many Freeptards and others who would like to see English as the official language.

Maybe if they hadn't gotten rid of their entire team after winning two consecutive world series we'd be able to share in the joy of seeing them in the Playoffs.

25. By this point I don't think it'd have made a difference.
It's been over a decade. Are any of the guys that were on those teams still in the majors?

They just need to get rid of their manager, Roy D. Mercer, and add another quality starter.

But regardless of who've they got on the field, you don't hear "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch of a Toronto home game.

26. Yeah, That's A Good Point.
I've been a huge toronto fan my whole life, but was really hurt when they traded just about every single player away after the 2nd series victory. We were never the same since.

But you are right that it is time for me to cast my bitterness elsewhere, as it has been too long since the breakup of that great team to use it as a source of my anguish any longer. :)

Anthem to throw in an extra few commercials . . . I doubt they'd even show the Canadian flag during the game.

National defense (especially as practised by the mysterious spaghetti monster in the sky) is something else altogether.

23. I wouldn't be surprised if MLB and the teams are sick of it, too
But no one has the spine to be the first to suggest ending it. It's like when so many people stuck flags on their cars on 9/11, but then didn't want to be the unpatriotic bastard who was the first in his neighborhood to remove the flag. So, we ended up with a bunch of increasingly tattered flags fluttering up and down the freeway...

33. I wish I was as optimistic as you are about the flag desecration
I look at it differently. I don't see a bunch of well-intentioned patriots who don't want to look unpatriotic by taking it down.

I see a bunch of phony patriots who embraced a trend, and get such a rush of self-satisfaction out of the number of flags and ribbons on their car that they will never take them down. They don't care how tattered and abused the flag gets, and they don't care about the cheapness and hollowness of a $1.99 ribbon. That's because they never really respected the flag or what it stands for, and they never will.

Like all fads, this faux-patriotism trend will pass soon enough. As soon as a Dem is president, my guess.

35. You could be right...
I imagine there's a bunch of both types, but I suppose I wouldn't be surprised if there are more of the latter.

As another odd example of the faux-patriotism, I saw a couple of Patriot Gas stations on my road trip today. That was a new one on me - I don't know if it's a freeper-type chain, or an immigrant owner trying desperately to prove to the freepers that he's not a terrorist...

37. I don't know if you watch The Simpsons or not
or if you even know about the characters.

Basically, the owner of the local "Kwik-E-Mart" is named Apu and he is Indian, accent and everything.

One episode (pre-9/11) focused on a vote to deport illegal immigrants. Apu, of course, was an illegal immigrant.

Anyway, one day Homer walks in and sees that the Kwik-E-Mart is covered with American flags, Apu is wearing the flag on his shirt and a cowboy hat with red, white and blue. And the national anthem is playing.

Funny thing, when you watch it now.

Back then, it was supposed to be a dramatic portrayal of how overboard Apu went to prove his patriotism.

But today, post-9/11, it just looks like any other gas station. Flags everywhere, overly-patriotic and borderline jingoistic displays of American imperialism and consumerism...

Its crazy to see.

Why get worked up over whether one team of millionaires beats another team of millionaires? It just added unnecessary stress to my life when the team of millionaires I was cheering for lost.

38. God is obviously too lazy to do anything other than bet on ball games
He must get a good laugh when both teams pray to him for victory, but he already has a sawbuck down on one of them. Notice he's a real pussy, though. He bets on the favorite all the time. However, it's obvious you CAN take it with you, at least so you can lose it to him at poker. Freaking guy gets five aces all the time, somehow. But it would be a REAL bad idea to try to quit playing, or worse, accuse him of cheating. Unless you love the smell of sulfur, ifn you know what I mean.

Let's face it. God's a shakedown artist.
