33. She isn't the original Mrs. Stevens...
The original Mrs. Stevens was killed in a plane crash in 1978 in which the senator was also injured. I've sent off this e-mail to Ted and to Lisa Murkowski this morning.

I'm writing to urge you to oppose the confirmation of Sam Alito to the Supreme Court. I am very troubled by his refusal to acknowledge Roe v. Wade as settled law, but more importantly his support for the "unitary excecutive" concept, in this time of overreaching power by the administration, is to put it mildly "scary." It is time for Congress to stand up for itself and assert it's authority as a co-equal branch of the government. Please do not rubber-stamp this appointment, but carefully consider what it means for the nation.

Thank you for your consideration.

Maybe I should call, too?

They failed to note that he was only referred to the senate, he has not won confirmation.

20. Here's the problem....
Our fearless Democratic Senators will vote against Alito because they know he will win. Next week they'll all be asking us for money to prevent this from happening again.

They won't, however, filibuster because they fear being framed as obstructionists by the media. The 5 "undecided" pubs are just holding out for some trade or another with the WH. My bet is the vote is a stright party line vote with only 1-2 defections. No chance of a filibuster. Sorry.

on this DU thread.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x232842

If we don't draw the line in the sand here and now, then where do we draw it?

For God's Sake, people, we are the watchdogs of democracy!
So, let's (FYI, to all agencies...metaphorically) go out and and bite someone's righteous-assed ankles. Tear those pinstripes, slobber up them Gucci's, and if their toupes fall off, grab 'em and shake 'em like a rat!

Alito Has Enough Support for Confirmation
By JESSE J. HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 23 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - As the Senate begins its final debate on Samuel Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court, the conservative jurist already has won enough commitments from senators to become the nation's 110th justice and likely tilt the high court to the right.

<snip>
As of late Tuesday, the federal appeals court judge had enough vote commitments for confirmation — a simple majority in the 100-member Senate — with 50 Senate Republicans plus Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska publicly saying through their representatives, in interviews with The Associated Press or in news releases that they would vote for him.

<snip>
The only way Democrats could stop Alito is through a filibuster, a maneuver they show little interest in trying. Thus Democrats are working to get a large opposition vote to score points against President Bush.

27. Score points........
SCORE POINTS! :wtf: SCORE POINTS! And what the hell good will the "points" be of Alito is confirmed?

The only points involved will be the lost points in the public opinion polls if these dip-shits don't filibuster Alito!

26. I've heard that spin here in this forum, the "save a fight for another
time that matters, or that we can really win" crowd, as if their were not a path to ultimate victory that didn't have some winning and some losing fights along the way, but was a defiant, principle-based fight!

30. The A.P. gets away with this shit everytime.
There's is usually the worst reporting going. I have been constantly emailing the Gaurdian U.K. requesting they drop the A.P. and go with Reuters instead. The A.P. is the dissemination point for all local papers in the country yet few people question their credibility. We all should work harder to expose them and not just the cable news networks for hypocrisy and bias.
