BREAKING-Cheney knew where WMD were!!! (Woodward revelation)
I saw this first in this piece by George Will but I had to double check it.

David Corn reported on Huffington Post (it is in "Hubris" as well as "State of Denial")
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-corn/woodward-and-hubris_b_30646.html

Cheney's office had a burning question for him: Had he seen a particular signals intercept? It was a highly sensitive communications intercept that had captured a snippet of conversation between two unidentified people. Cheney's aides were reading raw transcripts straight from the National Security Agency. And a Cheney staffer who had gotten hold of this piece of unanalyzed intelligence thought that it contained a reference to a WMD storage site in Iraq, even though the captured exchange didn't specifically mention weapons. What made the intercept most promising was that it had come with geographic coordinates for one of the unidentified persons. Here was a road map--finally--to Saddam's WMDs. Kay ordered his analysts to review the coordinates and went back to bed.

The next morning, his analysts checked the coordinates and discovered they referred to a site in the Bekka Valley in Lebanon--not anywhere in Iraq.

  :silly: :nopity: :wow: :banghead: :grr:

This was no lead. It was nothing. But as Kay was overseeing the search for weapons in the summer months of 2003, the vice president's office urgently wanted him to come up with evidence that Saddam had maintained arsenals of weapons of mass destruction--so much so that, just as Cheney and Libby had done before the war, the vice president's aides were rummaging through top secret, unprocessed intelligence in the hope of discovering what everyone else in the U.S. government had missed. "They were reaching down and reading raw intelligence and putting their own meaning on it," said a CIA official familiar with the incident.

2. Every day I thank my lucky stars the adults are back in charge
not. :puke:

Like a bunch of overzealous ROTC students set loose in the NSA. Heaven help us - it will take a good century to unravel the mess they have made - and even then we will never make up for the lost ground, lost face, lost prosperity.

7. I still don't understand their obsession with Iraq.....
so the only thing I can make out is it truly was for the oil and nothing else. The White House is filled with a bunch of crazy megalomaniacs. I'm sure Saddam was willing to sell oil to us so why did this all happen.

8. Why was it that Cheney just didn't have the WMD's planted.
I think they must have tried but something went wrong. Maybe the planters didn't know where Iraq was and planted them in Lebanon?

9. i think they tried, but were stopped by our own troops. i think they got
cold feet after failing a couple of times... realizing that it could end up in the news and destroy the administration in a heartbeat.

10. That's why I think Plame was outed--and not just Plame but also the entire
WMD counter-proliferation network (Brewster-Jennings) that she headed (--the second outing by Novak, on July 22). I think someone in that network--whose job it was to STOP the movement of illicit weapons--fucked up their covert shipment INTO Iraq. They had it all set up. They had NYT war propagandist Judith Miller embedded (via a special "embed" contract signed by Donald Rumsfeld, according to her) with the U.S. troops who were supposedly "hunting" for the WMDs they all knew weren't there. She was annoying local commanders, ordering them here and there, and threatening them with her Pentagon connections. All ready for the "big scoop" she thought she was going to get. They had set up the story with the Niger/Iran nuke forgeries. Part 2 was supposed to be the "find" of the weapons. That's the theory. But what happened to them? They never materialized. There was a report in the Islamic press of a foiled CIA plot to plant WMDS in Iraq (--although I think they may have gotten the perp wrong--it was DoD); a report (also Islamic source) of covert weapons shipped into Basra under Red Cross cover (falsely stamped boxes), and a weird story (in a congressman's book) about Manucher Ghorbanifar trying to lead the CIA to nukes in Iraq that he alleged had been stolen from Saddam and taken to Iran (which the CIA quickly determined was bogus). Ghorbanifar--the notorious Iran/Contra arms dealer--was present at the Rome meeting in 2001, where the Niger forgeries were likely cooked up. What was he there for? To compose forged documents? I don't think so. His specialty is illicit weapons movement. I also suspect--strongly suspect--that David Kelly got onto this plot (to plant nukes in Iraq), that that's what turned him around on the war and why he started whistleblowing (after the invasion), and it's why he was killed. He knew too much. The coincidence of dates with the Plame/BJ outings is haunting, to say the least. He was found dead, under highly suspicious circumstances on July 18, 2003, four days after Plame was outed; his office and computers were searched; and, four days after that, the entire BJ network was ADDITIONALLY outed. (Why did the Bushites out the whole network--what did that have to do with punishing Joe Wilson for his op-ed on the Niger nukes?) Kelley's whistleblowing (starting May 22, 2003), and the hunt for the whistleblower within the Brit services, and his being outed to his bosses (no one knows by whom), and his interrogation at a "safe house, all coincide with the covert Libby/Miller meetings and other events leading up to the Plame outings. I think they had a trans-Atlantic problem--whistleblowers in both countries, at the same time--and a great big thing they were trying to cover up (and were panicked about). A nefarious scheme by (probably) Rumsfeld to plant nukes in Iraq for a phony "find" by the troops (and Miller) fills the bill very nicely. It's just the sort of thing they would do. And it explains a lot about everybody's behavior, including why so many big dogs in Bushville risked treason charges over an op-ed piece in the NYT. (It wasn't about that.)

On the day he died, July 17, David Kelly wrote an email in which he expressed concern about the "many dark actors playing games." The email was to his old colleague Judith Miller (who had used him as a major quoted source in her book "Germs"). The email was later disclosed by his family (not by Miller). She had meanwhile been meeting with Libby to concoct some more lies about the war, and possibly to destroy a CIA counter-proliferation network, and was quickly losing credibility as a journalist over her propaganda articles on the WMDs in Iraq. (Kelly's whistleblowing had been about the "sexed up" prewar WMD dossier.)

It's still just a theory (the WMD-planting theory of Plamegate). But it holds up well, as new evidence emerges. Rumsfeld and Co. may have had a lot of reasons for wanting to destroy honest CIA professionals, but the events of July 2003 point to a specific cause--something that inspired panic and a scramble for cover stories (like, Rove did it for political revenge), and a strong desire to frighten and silence people IMMEDIATELY. (If they'd just wanted revenge on Wilson, they could have taken their time and done it in far less risky ways than outing CIA agents and contacts all over the world. Further, it's not as if they had a lot of worries about the U.S. news media siding with Wilson and others on the war. Why risk the ire of the CIA over an op-ed piece that likely would have slid into the oblivion of a very controlled news stream?) Looking back, and fitting the Kelly story dates into the Plamegate timeline, it appears that their coverup might have included murder of an insider white guy whose conscience had been pricked by something that they were afraid he would say. (Blair was informed on July 7 that Kelly "could say some uncomfortable things." COULD say. Not HAD said.) (Hutton Report.) What was it? What did he know that he had not yet disclosed to the public?
