Congresswoman "unhappy" about not being told
Story by Martin Staunton Email | Bio
Former Florida Congressman Mark Foley resigned Friday after allegations he sent Congressional pages sexually explicit emails.
Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., is one of three Congressional represenatives on the Page Board.
Capito says every member of that panel was not privy to a private warning, reportedly issued to Foley in October 2005.
The Page Board is the panel that oversee's the program that brings high school juniors to Washington, D.C. to work with Congress for a year.
Capito says she became aware of inappropriate Internet contact between Foley and some pages last Friday.
Capito says the board chair, Rep. John Shimkus, R-Illinois, told her that he spoke with Foley last October about the emails and instant messages.
But Capito says she and other members of the panel were not told about that meeting.
"I'm disappointed and I've talked with Mr. Shimkus several times, but you can't go back and redo and I said this is something we should have been made aware of and we weren't and I'm very unhappy about that," Capito said.
Capito says if there was a cover-up, she expects it to come out now that the FBI and other's are looking into it.
