Why is the Republican Party supporting Joe Lieberman ?
The latest polls have Joe Lieberman up by 2-3 points over Lamont. Lamont is polling about 43%. If Lieberman is ahead, it is because of Republican supporters. The Republican candidate is left with 10-12% of the remaining votes. How can a right-wing neo-con Administration like this one support a "good liberal" like Joe Lieberman? Maybe they think he is very close to their viewpoints? Democrats in Connecticut should think twice before they vote for this man once again.

2. He is a neocon
and a big Bush supporter, their dream is one party with everybody as a rubberstamp to
whatever Bush wants.

4. what the polls don't show is the fact that any republican will get 20%
There is a segment of republicans who will always vote the party line and will not support Joe. So if Joe is up 2% he will lose.

Why is it that only the Quinnipiac poll with a 10% gapis being mentioned in the media, when Zogby has it much closer?

5. Many Democrats are still supporting him.
As evidenced in this blog post. These are only the ones we know about.

http://bullmooseblogger.blogspot.com/2006/09/catch-magic.html

"The Moose applauds the brave Democrats who are standing with Joe. Roll Call reports,

"Democratic Congressional leaders may be keeping their distance from Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) since he opted to seek re-election as an Independent, but a group of more than 50 former Senators, House Members and Clinton administration officials will proudly announce the creation of "Dems for Joe" today...

"Other founding members include former Sens. David Boren (Okla.), Bob Kerrey (Neb.), John Breaux (La.) and Dennis DeConcini (Ariz.); former Reps. Mel Levine (Calif.) and Leon Panetta (Calif.), who served as chief of staff to President Bill Clinton; former Clinton Agriculture Secretary and former Rep. Mike Espy (Miss.); and former Clinton CIA Director James Woolsey.

"They join a much smaller group of incumbent Democratic Senators who have endorsed Lieberman in the general election. Sens. Tom Carper (Del.), Ken Salazar (Colo), Mark Pryor (Ark.), Mary Landrieu (La.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.) all have decided to stick by Lieberman."

Tammy Sun, Joe's spokesperson, put it best,

"Although we no longer have a party apparatus to count on, we're glad to know that Joe Lieberman can still count on good people who believe, as he does, that the best way forward is not by demonizing each other but by working together to find common solutions to common problems"

9. OK any current or former Dem elected official that supports this man
Disgust me beyond belief

Joe LIEberman ran in the Democratic primary - he lost - and by running as an independent Joe LIEberman has shown COMPLETE DISDAIN, CONTEMPT and DISRESPECT for Ct voters - and any Dem who supports him does too

There is a LONG list of things Joe LIEberman has done that piss me off beyond belief - but this independent run makes my blood boil and my head pop off - the man is a DISGUSTING PIG and does not deserve the vote of ANYONE.

And look at the list of current Senators who support him - every freaking one of them voted for the torture bill - these are the DINOs in the Senate and next time they come up for re-electon we have got to find REAL Democrats to run against them in primaries and get them the hell out of the Senate.

10. Holy Joe is selling the idea that he is willing to work with Repubs...
and he pretends it is a positive trait that shows he is "bi-partisan" and does not take a partisan stand on issues. He sells that point very well. However, it is not a positive when you cooperate with fascists and people of such poor judgement. Joe should be ashamed.

6. Because he allows them to claim that they
have "bipartisan support" to do whatever they want. Joe thinks he is a statesman and that he is really bipartisan. He does not realize he is just a tool for them.

7. Lieberman provides them cover for their failed foreign policies
Just like how the Bush Administration liberally quoted the "liberal" NY Times in the run-up to the war, and now "Democrat" Lieberman provides them cover for the train wreck that is Iraq, and the car wreck that is Afghanistan.

8. Easy -- They're cutting their losses
They know they don't stand a chance of getting a Republican into the Senate from Connecticut. Therefore, they're looking at ways to make lemons into lemonaid, by using whatever happens to embarass Democrats.

So they're going for the "lesser of evils" (a Democratic Senator). They're vbacking the one who has been most supportive and most in line with Bush on his pet issues of security and foreign policy, and who has been willing to insult his fellow Democrats in the process.

If Joe wins, the GOP can use it to claim that the Democratic leadership who supported LaMonte are "out of touch" with their own party. And if LaMonte wins, they'll cite it as proof that "reasonable moderate" Democrats like Lieberman have been pushed of the Democratic Party by the "Move On" leftist wing."

I'm not saying it's a correct assessment. But that's how they hope to turn a defeat into a point for their side.
