Ed Shultz ticked me off big time today!
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 04:58 PM by Windy
He's so worried about "phase two" regarding Iraq, but is ready to buy the administration hook line and sinker on Iran and its alleged nuclear capacity...Despite the IAEA's report that the US intelligence on Iran is flawed. (deja vu? )Didn't the Iraq debacle teach this blowhard anything? He kept blasting that Ahmadinejad wants to blow Israel off the face of the map and that's a reason to go after Iran. I hope he's ready to send his son to die for Israel, because my sons aren't going!

Diplomacy first!!! VERIFY!!! No unilateral action! These steps are critical so that we don't make the same mistakes with Iran that we made with Iraq. No, I don't believe that Iran should be permitted a nuclear weapon, however, diplomatic measures and sanctions must be a priority. This administration and this president Ed says we should support when it comes to Iran is out to start another war. That's the evidence says! The evidence thus far does not support a finding that an active nuclear weapons program exists in Iran. Its not with or against at this point. Its not so damn cut and dry!! Ed wants a one-liner candidate...and narrow-minded one-liner dems. Not me!! I want intelligent leadership!!!

Would Israel send it troops to Iraq to assist us? No, because it would cause more turmoil in the middle east. Would they send troops to the US to help us on our own soil? Doubtful! What has our unabashed support of Israel cost us especially during the bush administration and its lack of diplomatic efforts in the Palestinian/Israeli crisis? 3000 lives on 9/11!

Wake up Ed!!!

4. Unfortunately, Randi isn't on here during my drive time....
Ed is... Randi is tape delayed!! I sometimes turn to Mitch Albom here in Detroit. He is somewhat progressive.

14. I have the same problem here in Oregon...
They tape delay Randi too... usually, if it's around 2:00 in the afternoon, I flip over to NPR and listen to "Fresh Air" with Terri Gross.

3. Thing about Ed..
He is a progressive for "convenience" sake. It works for his radio career. If you listen long enough his wingnut roots shine bright.

Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 05:04 PM by Bluzmann57
If you don't like him, don't listen to him. But I guess people here would rather bash Eddie daily instead of just tuning him out. Personally, I like him for the most part. Ok, since we've gotten the daily "bash Schultz" thread out of the way, where's the "bash AAR" thread? C'mon people, you're letting me down.

7. |You agree with what he said? Come on! I didn't always agree with Ed
but, I did agree with him more than I disagreed with him. I really did like and support his show up until today. He went over the top. Frankly, his attitude with regard to Bush, Iran and the possibility of war is dangerous! We don't need anymore dead troops or innocent civilians to promote the Bush Administration's hairbrained scheme to democratize the middle east! He's giving them support just like some did prior to the Iraq war! He's buying into the fear propaganda and not letting rational minds take the lead! Shame on him!!!

Therefore, I can't comment intelligently on anything that was said or not said.

6. Where do people get the stupid, utterly crazy idea ..
that we can bomb and/or invade a sovereign nation because of what it MIGHT do to us!

It would be ILLEGAL for you to go and kill your neighbor because he had a shotgun, didn't like you, MIGHT have had some other weapons, and MIGHT have killed you. Wake up, America (not DUers)! You MUST be in IMMINENT DANGER of DEADLY FORCE before you can attempt to use deadly force yourself. IMMINENT means that something bad (the potentially deadly something) must be ABOUT to happen (as in 'it's right in front of you'). It's basically the same principal for nations. What is difficult about this concept ... for the NeoCons and their supporters to understand?

People have been believing crazier and crazier things since Booosh hit office.

It drives me crazy. Sorry. End of rant.

9. He totally ticked me off too -
but it was the stupid shit he was saying about the University of Oklahoma, their football coach and the University President - David Boren. He was completely constructing a false narrative about Oklahoma and their reaction to the theft of a football game this past weekend.

What a jackass. A completely uninformed jackass. His right hand was stroking - like so many x-jocks. Liar, liar, liar.

12. Bingo.
He still seems way too sympathetic to and susceptible to rightwing talking points.

I never listen to him anymore. Never. Too bad -- he was given a prime afternoon slot on our local AAR affiliate.

21. A sympathetic point of view
When he does seem to finally get it and goes off on a Randy style rant he seems to me to be fairly genuine. The problem is indeed his roots and close tendency to listen to a side pulled off consistently into RW lies and compromise. The general criticisms are valid. It matters if this is a complete pose but I think the real pose is pitching his whole message as "lefty" and what his market persona is compared to RW talk radio. Not surprisingly in this glaringly polarized climate it is compromise that is unreal when either unrecognized or wrongly defined. Populist working man with morally and fiscally conservative (non-loon) leanings is the farthest left he is ever going to get. FDR yes, socialism no and on down the line.

That distance and modest dishonesty(depending how conscious he is of over-defining himself as 'left') is part of the annoyance factor. Every talk show host I have ever heard has an annoyance factor. Randy is superior in her factual research grounding which is why she is angrier rather than moderately composed. To be composed at all these days one has to be blissfully ignorant or a dedicated comedian- which too many hosts are though it is an unrivaled breath of fresh air against strident hate radio.

Without proof I don't think Ed is working for the dark side consciously or not. I think he is close to the leading Democrats side and the middle of the murk groping public in still taking the naively confident stroll down the conservative garden path. If ever you think that the polls show the public finally "getting it" beyond the anger at the incredibly blatant Bush evils, consider that rock hard obstinacy and skewed compass.

20. Same here,
The first thing I heard when I turned the computer on was "we have to stand behind the president on this" and I almost shit myself. He pissed me off on the Murtha issue as well.

That said, here in Kansas, he's probably the only liberal show that would go over well in the red parts of the state. His moderate style, and "good ol' boy" sound is exactly the bait that is needed to hook the fish, as another poster described it. Then after they start to realize the truth, they'll be ready for the REAL liberals. Malloy is and always will be the best and my favorite, but he would not be effective at beginning the journey to truth for the dittoheads around here. Like it or not, we need Schultz too.

25. I'm not a huge fan of Schultz but wonder about Freeper/Trolls coming and
dissing him so often here on DU. The guy is RIGHT OF CENTER...but I don't see any of you on these posts who support PROGRESSIVE LEFT OF CENTER Dems who are fighting to TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY...

Instead you whine about Schultz and diss him and carry on. As I said, I'm not a FAN of his...but he serves a VALUABLE TRANSITION for the "LIMPBALLS CROWD."

Leave him be...and listen to Al Franken if you can't stand "Big Ed."

I'm sick of hearing it!!!! and so are many others who know what Schultz is doing even if we "personally" don't like the guy and have trouble listening to him...Sheesh!

26. Just heard the replay... I was furious, for the first time, with Ed
I've kept listening to Ed, but I wish now I'd have listened to all of you guys. I kept saying to myself, "well, he's not exactly where I want him to be, but he's not as bad as DUers say he is."

Well, yes, he is.

When I heard him repeatedly state that "we have got to get behind our President in terms of war with Iran," I couldn't believe my ears. He even had the audacity to keep saying, "Hey, folks, if what they're saying is true, we'd better get behind this President and I mean RIGHT NOW."

If what they're saying is true??? Ed's harped on for years about the WMD that never existed, about being lied into a war... and now he decides it's time to trust them?

My apologies to the DU Community. I'm sorry I ever doubted you.
