"The Dalai Lama opened the news conference in a relaxed and nonpolitical style, kidding about his English and turning 71 years old. He turned serious when discussing the issue of environment and natural resources, one of the 10 peace initiatives.

"We cannot remain indifferent," Dalai Lama said. "Each of us has to think about the future of the world."

He said his generation, "people who have white hair," should teach compassion and "warmheartedness" to the younger generation.

Unfortunately, he lamented, "modern education does not seem adequate" to teach compassion."

I met some of the Peacejam kids about a year ago, and was really impressed with their commitment, and sense of justice. If these are the kids who take over the world, we're in good shape. :)

Maybe you can host a peacejam where you are in the next few years... what a wonder that would be!

10. One Peacejam kid's blog....

"The first amazing day at PeaceJam! Within the first hour of being at DU I had talked to people from at least 4 other countries and heard at least that many languages spoken! The diversity - from Samoa to Burma, goths to preps, fair skinned to deep brown - was incredible. Never have I seen so many different kinds of people in the same place. The energy at PeaceJam made the air sizzle, and everyone was grinning. There seemed to be a general awareness that this is something incredible, something new and life-changing. P.S. On my computer, I point at the picture in question, hold down the control button, click the left mouse button and "Copy Image Location" and paste it here. I don't 'hotlink' many photos to DU because each time someone views it here - it is actually copied from the source to DU and uses bandwidth from the source site. At the very least - it is important to credit the source.
