The Specter Hearings...
Just how serious is Senator Arlen Spector in investigating whether Americans were spied upon and whether the president broke the law? Will he make this a very limited investigation or will he and the Repubs permit the full truth to come out?

How far should the Democrats insist this investigation go? Their first and only witness thus far will be Alberto Gonzalez. We know what he thinks and what he will say. He believes the president has the inherent power to do whatever he has done to "protect" us from the evil terrorists.

But shouldn't the Democrats ask for some answers from the NSA also? Who are they that they will use the funds that are appropriated to them by the Congress of United States, not the President, that would follow the orders of an Executive knowing full well the orders were against the law? They knew what he FISA laws required, yet they acted like waterboys for this criminally-minded White House. What questions should the Democrats insist be answered? They should not let Arlen Specter or anyone else whitewash this criminal act by the President of the United States.

1. I don't think they will. Conyers' forum was very powerful last
week, Kerry very forceful today, and even repugs are stepping up to the plate indicating their displeasure and possible illegalities involved.

2. At the Conyers hearing Friday, they mentioned a 42 page
rebuttal from DOJ/Gonzalez, hopefully this Senate committee is going over it, and they have counsel. They need to call in NSA, DOD/Rumsfeld on the tie in to the Quakers, and also go over the original use of force legislation after 9-11.

This definitely should not be a whitewash, and this committee needs to see what is in those 42 pages.
