The Nation -- Keith Olbermann is without a doubt the best news anchor on television today. Two weeks ago, echoing the spirit of the legendary Edward R. Murrow, Olbermann took Donald Rumsfeld to task for comparing critics of the Iraq war to Nazi appeasers. Tonight, broadcasting live from above a desolate and still demolished Ground Zero, Olbermann delivered a stirring eight minute commentary indicting the Bush Administration's shameful and tragic response to 9/11. The entire speech is worth watching and reading, so I'm posting the full text below.

Rated it up. Keith is getting some well deserved attention these days, and I hope it won't jeopardize his job (ala eric alterman).

32. I know...I even watched the midnight repeat....
and I've only ever done that a couple of times. Each time I've found myself nearly blubbering, and I'm a grown man. Noone deserves the spotlight more than Keith, he has been the lone voice in mainstream television media to take this administration and its harpies to task continuously.

6. Oblberman is good,
but he isn't a news anchor. Neither is tweedy, o'reilly, limbaugh, or the whole cable news ilk.

27. How do you figure that?
Tweety, OReally, etc. are talk show heads. Pundits. KO reports the news, and he most certainly IS an anchorman.

29. He is an anchor, although one that is not afraid to express his opinion
Contrary to popular belief news anchors are allowed to have opinions. When they report the news they have to stick to facts, something that Keith does very well.

Just like Edward R. Murrow spoke his mind from the news desk however, there is some room for commentary in the newsroom just so long as that commentary is not disguised as a legitimate news story. Keith never attempted to pretend that his opinion was shared by everyone.

O'Reilly is something completely different than Keith, because O'Reilly does not always report the facts he just straight up lies. There is a difference between expressing an opinion and lying, and that is the line no journalist can cross. O'Reilly has crossed that line, Keith has not.

9. It IS Obvious That He Has Stood Alone Among His Peers & Most
definitely surpassed them in confronting these Corrupt Revisionists as no other. I, as well as thousands and thousands of others have nothing but praise for his courage to speak out when so many others have looked the other way.

For some time now I have not used the word HOPE because it has had very little meaning for me. Hoping has done nothing, only action will. With Keith Olbermann speaking out as he has done over the past year, we finally see some real action. I can't express my gratitude for the strength of this man. Who would have ever thought that he, one who was basically involved in sports would have become such an advocate for our Constitution and Bill of Rights!

I wrote to thank him myself as I'm sure so many others have. This is the 3rd hard-hitting speech he's given in less than 2 weeks, but there have been others in the past. I wish him all the best and pray that he will remain safe. I worry that those evil doers will have him in their cross hairs.

11. You mentioned "others in the past"
The most notable of the others was the Katrina special comment. That comment landed Mr. Olbermann in Rolling Stone's list of 2005's Mavericks, etc.

After the Rumsfeld comment, Rolling Stone is showing it still watches Mr. Olbermann.

Perhaps a cover feature might be in the future.

26. That Would Very Fantastic... I Still Subscribe To Rolling Stone
and am aware of the others, but thanks for the links. As a "boomer" I stopped getting the Stone for a while, but have always come back. I had so many old issues and one of the commemoration of Elvis Presley that I gave to my sister from way back then. She's a huge Elvis fan, I really wasn't all that much.

I'm more Dylan, Jackson Browne, Joan Baez, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and many of the era, you get my drift. Last month they did Dylan on the cover! His new CD hit Number 1 last week.

It's on the same time as Comedy Central repeats of "THe Daily Show" and "Colbert Report". SInce I try to go to bed around 10-10:30, I usually catch the repeats the next day.
