el pretzeldente was in KC yesterday - pictures!!
El pretzeldente was here yesterday to help Senator Jim (no)Talent raise money at a $1000 a plate dinner. About 500 of us were there to greet him as he arrived at the fundraiser. The dinner was hosted by the heir to Russell Stover candy. This is my favorite sign:

I liked this one too

The cops were obnoxious! In spite of agreements they made prior to the protest, we were forced back away from the intersection and made to stand in the sun, behind yellow crime scene tape. But a group of (no)Talent supporters was allowed to walk under the crime scene tape and go across the street to the corner where the motorcade passed by. The same cop who told us to get behind the crime scene tape was there at the corner to greet them and shake their hands as they took their positions. They were close enough to touch the presidential cars as they passed. Here is a picture I took of that corner. I think this is the secret service talking to the cops. Sorry no picture of the privileged group allowed to stand there. By that time, the cops were standing in front of us and I couldn’t get a good shot.

This armored car was part of the caravan (paid for by our tax dollars) that accompanied the worst president ever as he arrived at the fundraiser.

A cop ripped this sign in two!

About 10 (no)Talent supporters remained in the crime scene/free speech area and taunted us. We found out later they were paid by the (no)Talent campaign to attend our protest! They were quite rude as well as overdressed. (Who wears a suit or a dress and heels to a protest?) They tried to chant but we had bullhorns J

I told one of these paid young repukelicans that she needed to be in Iraq if she really supported the president. She said “If I wasn’t the mother of a baby, I would be there.” I said “Oh there are plenty of mothers of babies in our military fighting in Iraq. I am sure they would all rather be home with their babies too.” Another young repukelican held up her middle finger at me (half the peace sign!) My friend told her “And I will bet you also claim to be a Christian!”

The cops told us we had to move our signs into the crime scene area but this one was overlooked. It was seen by hundreds of passing motorists as well as the presidential motorcade.

Hard to hide this sign J

As el pretzeldente drove by, he was greeted by his own image in briefs (the emperor has no clothes). This george also has a yellow string coming from between his legs, since he is “the leaker”. David stood on top of two coolers to hold george up high enough to be seen.

More signs:

A Marine, who has been in Iraq for 2 tours of duty and is about to be called back for a 3rd tour.

Camp Casey was there! There were several Camp Casey alums in attendance. Some drove 5 hours to be there and brought this tent.

Our own evlbstrd!

presidential 10 inch thick steel limousine. i know what happened to my neighbors as his armored helicopters flew over our rooftops when he came to visit following the wilma hurricane last year. it was not just yelling. they gave him and his helicopter the finger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as for myself, i was in the PUBLIC PARKING LOT as the armored helicopter carrying him flew overheard and i started to yell something like, "You COWARD GOOD FOR NOTHING COME DOWN HERE NOW AND FACE THE PEOPLE" ... OF COURSE he couldn't hear me (and he probably didn't see my neighbors giving him the finger) but the people out in the PUBLIX PARKING LOT did hear me and they must have been supporters of bush as they looked at me like i had gone mad. The man is such a toxic irritant!

Amd by the way, i admire your courage (and that of your friends and people in the protest) holding signs up for the idiot to see...and i thank you for posting the pictures.

5. Great photos. Since when does peaceful protest warrant crime scene tape?
Answer: When Chimpy comes to town. Russell Stover candy is quite simply poor quality crap. * fits right in. Anti-war protesters need to use the spell-check as well (fascists) -- or the freepers will be posting them on the moran thread!

He makes tons of signs for us and this is the first time in years I have seen him spell any word wrong. He told me later he thinks the cop ripped his sign because he was a member of the spelling police. LOL

I could only stay for a little more than an hour because I had to get back to work. In fact, the KC Star photographer started to take my pic and I asked him not to because I was supposed to be at work!

But, if I hadn't had to get back to work, I would have joined you guys afterwards as well.

14. City. Kansas City.
As much as I'd love to say it was all Kansans, of which I am one, I have to give credit to our Missouri bretheren that were there as well.

For those who don't know, there is literally a street that runs down the middle of town called State Line (it is actually only a couple of blocks from where these photos were taken), and it is the actual state line! Kansas on one side and Missouri on the other.

19. Traffic on State Line was messed up when we left the protest site
My friends from out of town wanted to see the house where the event was held so I drove west on 55th. Luckily for us, the attendees were just then leaving and one of our group had a bullhorn. He used it to let them know how shameful they are to support this evil president.

So anyway, as we got down to State Line, the traffic was backed up all the way from SM Pkwy! By that time Ward Parkway was open again so we never did figure out what the deal was.

It's just kind of a local joke, you know?

Well, many key Civil War battles, including some that many Historians think actually started the war, took place along the border. The riff between the two states really does still exist today. KU and MU fans hate each other like no other.

11. I wish we had been there
We had two clients from hell yesterday. I think one is related to one of evl's clients. She pushed the tabletable up a month and insisted we get her the prelim materials by Monday. The second client kept calling and wanted a meeting. I stayed home and worked on the materials and what's his name drove into his KC office to meet client #2. She kept him waiting for almost two hours before she called here at the house and decided she wanted to wait on a meeting until later when she had the funds! I had to call the office and let him know that she wasn't coming in after all. By the time hubby got home he was really pissed and took the dogs out for a long walk to calm down. The only good news is that I finished the hardest part of the materials about 2 this morning. Now I just have to finish the research and put it all together by Monday.

My department was slammed with work by the client on Friday and I took the afternoon off anyway. I put in the request 2 weeks ago and refused to let them rule my life. I wonder how much longer I'll have this job.

38. There were two clients
The first one is the one that moved up the table table (almost a full month!). The second one was the that really screwed us up. She detained the Admiral in his KC office for two hours before she finally decided to reschedule. By the time he got away from the office he hit the lunch hour traffic in the construction zone near his office. He came home with a headache and upset stomach. I wasn't in a good mood either. Add to the mix three of my brothers (who are all staying with us this weekend) arguing about where to get pizza and what toppings they want on it.

LOL, at least I have job security :eyes:. I keep trying to get fired but, so far, no dice.

Oh well, back to work.

31. I can't decide which pic I like best,
although the final one of NO brought tears. I hope he got a good look at all of them, and I hope you got some local coverage.

37. He saw a few
One of our group put a bunch of signs along the hill that he came up and I don't think they were moved.

evlbstrd's sign is just awesome! It was definitely the most professional looking sign there.

64. Handle that thing carefully.
Use every sanitary precaution. If possible, incinerate it, mix the ashes with lime and bury them. The cover that with reinforced concrete.

85. Still more photos
A fellow named Jon Matthew posted loads more KC protest photos at his Yahoo Photos site. I found one that includes our own evlbstrd (with the awesome "Worst. Disaster. Ever." sign) and me (with "Bush's Talent Is Lying").
