OK, the Jesus Camp movie is not our friend.

The trailer advertises its "fair" coverage of the subject.

Sort of like "fair and balanced". Look at the header ad...it resembles a recruiting tool.

The trailer does not appear have a progressive viewpoint. I'm thinking we're being duped? MKJ

1. I hate that "fair and balanced" crap
it assumes that the opposite of truth deserves airtime.

4. Google Jesus Camp.
The proprietaries advocate making their young camp attendees as devoted to their religion as the Muslim children are to theirs! Read it. All of it. Devil's Lake, ND is the site of the camp........ironic isn't it?

6. I wondered about that...
My hope is that the movie trailer intentionally doesn't portray these people in a bad light so that freepers will want to watch it, and then they will be forced to see some truth.

This Jesus Camp thing scares me in its use of emotionalism to control people, especially kids. Not that Christianity isn't appropriately an emotional thing...but using emotions to manipulate and control is never good.

9. I hope you're right and that the film makers have been that sophisticated
in their marketing.

Although, they haven't told me how the movie frames this subject to which I have such a visceral reaction. There is no sense of the viewpoint of the film, which is what defines it.

I can do without paying to see a movie which tries to explain the "pros" of a Jesus Camp. I don't trust this movie enough to take the chance of laying down cash.

8. It is fair
and by being fair, these people look like the insane troglodytes they are.

Why is this bad?

10. Well, I'm not looking for "fair". A movie that tries to explain the "good"
Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 09:45 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
things about a Jesus Camp is not one that most here would want to see.

Movies express views. The film makers are taking pains to make their movie appear to be an equal representation of "both sides".

Well, it's hard for me to believe that forcibly brainwashing small children has any sort of supportable positives.

11. People are people
some good, some bad. Hard as it is for some to believe, even bad people have their good sides, and good people have their bad sides.

In this case, the most damning thing you can do is tell the absolute truth about them, or rather, let them tell the truth about themselves. Showing them to be human beings who mean well in no way detracts from the message that they are dangerously insane people. In fact, it underscores the point.
