Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 11:32 PM by Bleachers7
Does anyone remember that? There were lots of "stories" about people being followed by black helicopters, men in unmarked cars without uniforms stopping traffic and searching cars, and other general craziness during the Clinton years. It mainly came in the aftermath of Waco. What happened to that and those people? Also, wouldn't it be worse now that the gov't acknowledges to listening to your calls?

1. They're only afraid of big government when Democrats are
in charge. Oh...and 9/11 changed everything!

I don't know who's more pathetic out of this year's crop of Senate Republican candidates: KT McFarland, John Spencer, Katherine Harris, or Alan Schlesinger. Oh and let's not forget Jeanine "where's page 10?" Pirro, who is now running for State AG.

10. I wonder if everything will still be "changed"
once a Democrat gets elected president. Certainly they won't bash our new Democratic president at all and they'll support him (or her) unswaveringly, because, of course, 9-11 changed everything. Rush Limbaugh and Hannity will have to quit their jobs.

6. Here's something that may explain it.
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 11:43 PM by Bleachers7
I forgot about the militia madness in the 90's.

"Black helicopters are part of a conspiracy theory, especially prevalent among the US militia movement, that claims that special unmarked "black" helicopters are being used now in secret military operations and are going to be used by secret agents of the New World Order to implement the New World Order."

http://tinyurl.com/q3ydg

I think Clinton cracked down on some of these nuts. I vaguely remember the Michigan Militia was going to rise up and take back the gov't.

21. There were supposedly codes on highway signs, too
...to direct the gun-seizing government troops as they came to town to force everyone to have an abortion, or something like that.

Also, Clinton was going to use the Y2K computer problem to declare martial law on the first day of 2000 and seize control of the government, or the world, or the Universe, or something like that.

On the basis of foolish nonsense like these examples, many right-wing wackos stockpiled food and supplies and went off to live in caves in Idaho where they would be safe from Bill Clinton.

Where are they now?

http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_99/dfisher070599.html

Excerpt:

It doesn't matter what you call it, it's still the same. Y2K (naive) optimists and virtually every PR assurance routinely claim the following:

There's not going to be major power outages. There will be no food shortages. Telecommunications will work just fine. Everything that matters in the U.S. will be repaired. "We're well on our way".

HMMM...If that were undoubtedly correct, then why are extensive military plans being made to deal with widespread civil disorder and infrastructure failures? Gee, if the consensus that everything will be A-OK in the United States is true then there would be no need for the Department of Defense (DoD) to do this, would there?

I believe infrastructure failures will be so disruptive the military will have to step in and "control" certain sectors of the economy if it is to remain functional. This is in addition to general civil disorder and looting accompanying the Y2K transition period.

12. I was very good friends w/ the Nevada Militia leader
Not Art Bell, who is actually a fairly nice guy (still crazy, though), but a friend of Art's. Ran for sheriff, owns a legitimate business, fed me as a teenager, and in reality is a pretty decent guy, if completely mislead.

He used to claim that Clinton was a product of Skull & Bones -- though he wasn't. When Bush was running, the fuckers devoted their time and energy to voting for the candidate who actually WAS Skull & Bones.

They're pissed that's the government's listening to your calls. Just not as pissed as they'd be if the administration was Democratic. Funny how that outrage is so malleable, huh?

Maybe they think all that stuff is OK if a conservative Republican does it, but if a raid is conducted on a cult compound by a Democratic president, then the government is out of control to them.

But yeah...I remember stuff like the Michigan Militia protesting some kind of "U.N. day" at the state capitol, or that guy who tried to fly a plane into the White House, or that guy who just started firing through the fence at the White House too. I think these three things were before the Oklahoma City bombing, but I'm not sure, and you scarcely hear about the last two when people talk about terrorism.

16. Here's an article about weird right-wing security incidents in the 90s.
I guess they did start happening a lot leading up to the Oklahoma City bombing:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/02/07/national/main270258.shtml

I remember thinking when the bombing happened too that it seemed like the work of radical right-wing conspiracy theorists due to it being an attack on a federal building.

What is wrong with people? Why do they shoot at Democratic presidents? I fear for whoever is next.

Here's some info I found
"The militia movement is a relatively new right-wing extremist movement consisting of armed paramilitary groups, both formal and informal, with an anti-government, conspiracy-oriented ideology. Militia groups began to form not long after the deadly standoff at Waco, Texas, in 1993; by the spring of 1995, they had spread to almost every state. Many members of militia groups have been arrested since then, usually on weapons, explosives and conspiracy charges. Although the militia movement has declined in strength from its peak in early 1996, it remains an active movement, especially in the Midwest, and continues to cause a number of problems for law enforcement and the communities in which militia groups are active."

You still see the chemtrail stories, claims of the New World Order, federal concentration camps, and much more. Occasionally, DUers seem to think the kind of websites that go on about these kind of things are reliable sites worth quoting from.

27. Great Song by Soul Coughing
Whose song is that remembered?
At random, surpenting
Throught fatty coils, emerging
Some other thought it's thinking
This light stands above the
Houses on the ground
This illumination
Visited upon the whole land
Unmarked helicopters
Hovering
The Lord is coming soon

Here comes the super 'copter
Here comes the noise it makes
The demon was an idea
The demon is awake
Scratch mark traced across the
Surface of your mind
This hour, now upon us
The hour, now arrived

Unmarked helicopters
Hovering
The lord is coming soon
Unmarked helicopters
Hovering
They said it was a weather balloon

But i know the truth
I know the whole shebang
I know the names of men they had to hang
I let her out the trunk
Heard what she said at them
They've come to drag us through the double M
It goes black black black black and blacker...

Unmarked helicopters
Hovering
The lord is coming soon
Unmarked helicopters
Hovering
They said it was a weather balloon
It was a weather balloon...
