Would you punish any kind of thought?
Just thinking out loud.

1. Nah. I've discovered that over a lifetime most thoughts are rewarded
appropriately.

2. No.
Of course not.

Mental illness might make some people dangerous to society, and subject to restrictions as such, but it should be so humane that it cannot be considered "punishment".

3. No. Most people don't have enough to them,
and most of the ones they do have don't become actions. As long as a thought stays in someone's head I don't think it should ever be a crime.

4. No - there're lots of thoughts that I would criticize, contradict,
or ridicule, and I would hold people responsible if their expressed thoughts led to criminal action, but I think it's far to dangerous to punish an idea, no matter how stupid or hateful the idea may be...

5. Absolutely not. Whether I agree or not.

Everyone has the right express themselves, and their thoughts shouldn't be censored by whether or not they're "acceptable".

7. No. Such an act, if possible, would be monsterous

8. Thinking about making thoughts illegal is illegal.
So don't think about it!

9. Nope, I go for education myself.
Though some might think my "droning on and on" to be a form of punishment.

10. No. Absurd.
There would be no more fiction. Criminal investigations would become impossible if you can't think from a criminal's perspective. Sexual abusive victims and people with anxiety disorders often have uncontrollable dark thoughts. Thoughts are the ultimate privacy issue.

Now BELIEFS are a different thing. I don't think they should be punished, but I also don't think they are sacred. No one gets to have their beliefs unchallenged.

11. I was wondering when someone was going to realize that some
practices based on speech/ideas are dangerous: ex. Jeffs and his polygamy and child brides. I am for free speech and do not want any kind of speech censored but I fear the actions the result from ideas.
