Keillor does it again...
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 10:31 AM by mcscajun
"...no more healthcare for card-carrying Republicans. It just doesn't make sense to invest in longevity for people who don't believe in the future. Let them try faith-based medicine, let them pray for their arteries to be reamed and their hips to be restored, and leave science to the rest of us."

2. Oh, snap! I love Keillor - his book, "Homegrown Democrat" is
a favorite of mine to explain why I am a Democratic aficionado. Garrison details all of the things Americans, hell, the world, have to thank Democrats for. Dems work to make the world better for everyone - repugs are the Party of Me.

3. Thanks for posting this. I love this man.
I once posted that in the future, when we're all standing on the bread and water lines, all bush voters will be required to wear a red W on their clothes (those who voted for him twice will have two.) They will be ordered to the back of the line, and will always have to give up their spot to a non-W citizen. Seems fair to me.

4. He just snaps now and then
I remember his speech after the 2000 election, "We're All Republicans Now." It was delivered in a gentle, folksy manner, but it was bitter and stinging. I forget exactly how it went, but he was saying that it was OK to be a greedy sonofabitch, and to feel good about it. They even had a song.

We're All Republicans Now - G. Keillor
Saturday, November 27, 2004
Listen

Garrison Keillor: I want to be a uniter, not a divider, on this show. And do my part to bring this country back together. Bring the red and the blue together ---- and red and blue combine to make----- red. That's right.

(MUSIC)

We're all Republicans now
We're all united and how
For national security
And cultural purity
We're all Republicans now
Down with the income tax
Get government off our backs
Less regulation—let people be free
To work overtime and have two jobs or three
Put strict constructionists back on the courts
Let liberals have it right in the shorts
It's a free country so go and have fun
But not in my backyard cause I have a gun
We're all Republicans
All Republicans
All Republicans now.

We're all Republicans now
We're happy Republicans now
God put us in office He
'S fulfulling his prophecy
We're all Republicans now
So if health care you can't afford
You better talk to the Lord

He brought us to power—it's His Will we do
We're only His Servants when we're pounding on you
He told us to battle and never relent
We weren't just elected, no, we were sent
No matter what happens, we're not to blame
For He has redeemed us from guilt and from shame
We're all Republicans
All Republicans
All Republicans now.

7. fuck em. They are gonna be Raptured soon anyway. So
why do they need health care?

And besides, don't they want to get to heaven as soon as possible?

So why would they fight death?

8. No foreign policy decisions should be made by people looking forward to
the end of the world via the final destruction of Israel, either.

11. Garrison Keiller is awesome.
He's the only reason I used to tune in to NPR.
Unfortunately the only working radio I have right now is a tiny little battery powered one I bought in case of hurricanes, and it kinda sucks.
However it is very cute. It's a little stuffed frog with the radio inside. You press one foot to turn it on or off and another one to search for the next station. :)

12. You can listen online, too. And there are archives of the PHC.
No reason for you to miss out on Garrison Keillor.
