So we had this topic about how Jonny boy is in white supremacist groups on facebook. Due to the fact that I'm in college and my friends prodded me incessantly, I too joined the facebook social network.

So after reading about Jonathan I sent him this message:

Racism, intolerance, bigotry, hatred get you NOWHERE
Remember that.

He responded (very quickly, what within an hour?):

I agree. Neither does judging people you dont know. Remember that.

16. What really bothers me about this story

is that a young man his age should really have more self control, considering his father's position, to not make such inane statements public.
And if his parents really are Christian family values people, why is their son spouting such hate? Where did he learn that this kind of behavior is acceptable?
I think we all know where.
He's mouthing off on an incredibly public forum because he has no idea what constitutes decency. His family, his friends...everyone he associates with don't consider these statements offensive.
So. Neither does he.
And that's what really bothers me. His father wants to be our president. Imagine that. Someone even worse than Bush.

other than the fact that he is on some white supremacist groups on MySpace.

Both statements are accurate, in themselves, and couched in passive aggressive language but, in my opinion, his phrase describing you is better supported than your's describing him.

to judge him for being associated with white supremacist groups...but it's mandatory.
Evil happens when good people do nothing.
I'm not complacent with hate groups. He's earned the right to be criticized and judged.
If he can't handle that, maybe he should reconsider who he associates with and what he says publicly.

29. I can agree to some extent. Being a member of this club, or whatever it

is, definitely takes away his presumption of "innocence" regarding the matter. My point is that I don't feel that being a member of this group is enough evidence to condemn him.

I would just be more careful and learn more about the person before I began lobbing bombs such as racist and intolerant.

supremacy of whites (which it most likely is - however it could be some stupid frat thing).

My point, again, is that a single act, such as this, although racist is not enough to label HIM racist. If an idiot (we can use Bush) says one brilliant thing, is he now brilliant? I hope you can see my point (not sure if I'm explaining it clearly enough).

It is a judgment call...one which I tend not to make based on membership in an online club. The picture is more evidence, yes.

At some point there are enough individual racist acts to label one as racist. To me, that point has not been reached with this guy.

I oftentimes in college would pretend I was a huge Republican when I went out in order to mentally play with them. Someone in the bar could see me and label me but they would be wrong.

I simply believe it is best to withhold judgment, especially when based on such slim evidence.

Frist's membership in a racist group - even one that might be just a college prank - leaves him open for getting called on it. In this day and age, letting that kind of shit slide by without spotlighting it as disgusting is a mistake.

Beyond that, there's no way in hell that I would ever be a part of any group, prank or not, that even intimated that they excluded Jews or anyone else based on their race, creed, color, sex or whatever. Would you? No way. It says something about young Frist that he would even be okay with being a member of that group. He wants to be in that club - he's going to get called a racist in my opinion, rightly so.

I support the new flag. The previous one was instituted as a backlash to integration. The one we currently have, and is my avatar, is the flag that was flown running up to 1956. The flag has always had the Platonic archway. The stripes may have confederate origins but I doubt anyone sees them as such. I have always seen them as simply similar to the stripes on the federal flag.

It is my avatar because it is the flag of my home state and the state in which I vote.

This is probably another instance of making assumptions without knowing all of the facts.

edit: By "previous one" I mean the one we had up until 2001. I've happily ejected the blue monstrosity from my memory.

apathy of hate. His responses show me that my message touched home and revealed a little about him. I'm not damning him as an awful person despite his horrible ties to these hateful groups, past activities, and of course his father -- who is complicit in war crimes.
