More Americans will have died in Iraq than on 9/11 by Dec. 8th.
I mentioned this in response to another thread, then decided others might want to see the analysis as well, so I expanded on it a little. It may seem a bit cold to break it down to numbers, but it can also put things in a simpler and more stark perspective.

Total Americans killed in Iraq, currently 2630.

Official tally for people killed on 9/11, 2819.

Difference: 189.

At current KIA rate in Iraq of 1.86 per day, that's 101 days.

That means that on or about December 8th, the soldiers killed in Iraq will be more numerous than the civilians killed on 9/11.

If you add in the number of Americans killed in Afghanistan--currently 333--then the current death toll is 2963, 144 higher than 9/11.

Current KIA rate in Afghanistan is 1.0 per day.

By the end of the year, the number killed in Afghanistan could be as high as 455. The number killed in Iraq will likely be approximately 2,860. The combined toll would be over 3,300.
