CNN.com to Replay 9/11 Attacks Coverage
"CNN will mark the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks by replaying on the Internet the cable network's coverage of that day's events.

Viewers can watch how events unfolded starting at 8:30 a.m., minutes before the first reports of an airplane hitting the World Trade Center. The feed will run in real time, as the network showed it five years ago, until midnight."

Actually, this might not be a bad time for all the 911 people to record the coverage. I would be interesting to see how the events were perceived on that day. It's hard to remember, given everything we know now.

1. Interesting concept ...
Back on November 22, 1988, my roommates and I were watching a movie on A&E. I was about to walk away from it, when a "CBS Special Report" screen came on. The screen was in black and white and then they went to the newsroom saying they are reports that President Kennedy was shot while rding in his in Dallas.

They did it in real time, seeing the clocks in the back wall matching our time and it was gripping.

Since I wasn't born yet! But the 9/11 coverage was just 5 years ago and I have no desire to relive it just yet!

8. 11/22/63 - The day America changed
Funny coincdence. I just happen to be listening to discussions about the JFK assassination conspiracy right now. I think Nov. 22, 1963 was more of a shocker than Sept. 11, 2001. I also think the day Kennedy was shot was the day that America changed. It was a tipping point in a power struggle which has never tipped back. Americans lost their innocence, too. They realized that their world may not work they way they imagined.

2. I'd watch
I was in the classroom and didn't get to see how the coverage developed. All I saw was the buildings going down over and over again.

13. Thinking along the same lines
This will be interesting. It is so amazing the things that are said and reported at the time an event is unfolding, never to be heard about again. As soon as I read that CNN will rebroadcast the coverage, I wondered the same thought.

9. I kept a diary of my reactions and what I heard and saw the whole day
I had just picked up a new journal the day before and by day's end it was 3/4 full. I've gone back and read it several times. Interesting to see not only how it was covered but also what my emotional reactions were at the time.

And part of that day for me was personally intense. My brother-in-law was was piloting a plane that flew out of Logan and through New York in the same time frame. It wasn't until a few hours later we were certain he wasn't one of the pilots that hit the towers.

Also the person standing in front of me when the story broke on the radio got quite a scare. Her father worked on (if memory serves) the 101st floor of one of the towers. He lucked out because a client he was picking up at the airport had his flight come in late so he was just crossing the bridge when the first plane hit.

10. Might be neat to have "where were you thread"
Maybe on 9/11 I'll start a thread like that. I always heard that everyone knows exactly where they were and what they were doing when they learned that Kennedy had been shot. I ask people this sometimes. Now a new generation has a new event. As tragic as 9/11 was, it does seem to provide almost everyone with a common experience, in a weird sort of way.

17. While writing my post it occured to me
I should go back and do an edited version of that day's journal. I don't have enough posts to start my own thread, but I'll keep my eyes out for your's on 9/11 to kick in my share.

I think reviewing the day through individual memories will be a good reminder that while 3,000 peoples' stories ended that day it profoundly touched millions more.

11. I wonder if they'll edit out Aaron Brown and replace him with
Anderson Cooper? Maybe Anderson will cry when the towers fall. Aaron never did.

12. How 'bout playing the Katrina coverage? Specifically, the shots of...
... Bush saying nobody anticipated the breach of the levees, the shots of Brown saying he hadn't heard of the people at the Convention Center, and the shots (the night of the storm) of the CNN reporter in tears describing attempts at rescuing, in the dark, the thousands who were in the flood, including tales of bodies and screams from people likely drowning as she spoke.

How 'bout playing that footage all day this Tuesday, CNN.

Hmmmnn?!?

Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 04:17 PM by high density
But reminding all of the security moms how scary 9/11 was will remind them how great the Republicans are at <creating> terrorism... I guess??

21. Their reporters and editors should watch it to remember their promises
In the wake of 9-11, media presstitutes repeatedly, admitted that they had become too obserssed with trivia and not enough to the importantr news of the world. They kept apoligizing for the fixation on gary Condit in the days before 9-11, and promised to become serious journalists.

HA HA HA.

Instead of Gary Condit, they're obsessed with Jon Benet's ten year old murder.

It would shame them if they had any shame.

Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 05:53 PM by TheWatcher
Sorry to be cynical, but remember the terrorist In Chief always tells us we can't forget 9/11.

Only Republicans can protect us after all.

And we need to be constantly reminded of what Bush and The Republicans, um, Oh I'M SORRY, The TERRORISTS will do to us if they aren't constantly watching over us.

Watch for Osama's capture about a month later.
