For Anyone Without HBO.... (Pic heavy)
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 09:53 PM by LibraLiz1973
Here is just wee bit of what we many of us have been seeing.

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060820/ART09/608190314
"Lee affords these people what few media outlets have: the dignity to speak for themselves. It's why he doesn't brush past a provocative segment on whether someone dynamited the levees to save the richer neighborhoods. As Barry and other historians point out, there are a number of long-seeded, well-founded reasons for believing such a thing. It's why for every portrait of action, we witness the immediate impact of the action."

4. This was one of the most moving and telling films that I've ever seen
in my life.

Spike Lee has made his place in the world of cinematography and the humanities with this film.

"Walking to New Orleans" by Fats Dominoe. What a way to end it.

14. Yeah.. brings it all home
It's weird how you think you really remember something clearly and then you see photos and you go "My god it's worse than I remembered"

I think about Katrina and the victims of Katrina all the time- but I guess the memories were in snippets. The documentary and pix Spike showed brought it alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll back

were told to just go ahead and fuck those people by the Bushies? Promised no harm would come to them?
Developers want that property and probably had their ducks in a row for awhile jus' waitin' for this to hit N.O. Wonder what other nice little spots they covet after some disaster strikes?

Do not sit idly by while people are allowed to languish in third world conditions in the richest country in the world.
Flood the White House. Send a water bottle to the President. Send him a message. People are STILL without drinking water.

No room for phonies in Spike Lee films.

I wonder if they are happy now with their "performance"?

25. How quickly the media forgot.
Of course stories moved on, more news every day that must be covered -but why, why weren't their deferential attitudes more....altered?

A typical progression: CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien wondering why she, with a 23-year old intern and a lap top, has more information than FEMA director Michael Brown; newsreel of Canadian Mounted Police arriving before a coordinated U.S. response; then a man, sitting months later for Lee's patient camera, telling matter-of-factly how he left his dead mother in a wheelchair outside the Superdome, a note pinned to her chest.

26. And they're not covering the atrocities there now
Like the bulldozing of the 9th ward, the wage slashes for rebuilding workers, etc.

Congresswoman McKinney and many black activists and congresspersons went there and fought for NOLA in the aftermath. The media in its few weeks of actually showing compassion for the poor have now forgotten again. Jon Benet is more important -- don't you know?

When The Levees Broke is one of most powerful documentaries
I've ever seen. The people had a chance to speak and we see that not
only did they get little help, five friggin days after the breach, they still
aren't getting help.

Two things were mentioned in this film that i didn't know;

1. Brown's hands were tied, Chertoff was the head guy who sat on his butt for four days.

2. LA doesn't receive revenue from the oil drilling right off their coast. Blanco has sued the
Feds, who get the money, to reverse this. WTH? It's oil off their coast. They don't get the revenue?
It was pointed out in the film, if they did receive the money, they could rebuild the levees and NO
without Federal monies, (which aren't' coming in, anyway).

No wonder the people of NO and many Gulf Coast areas feel no one cares about them!

Spike Lee's film will not let us forget-ever!

:grr:
