2. 2 DLCers; should be titled "The Past of the Democratic Party."
Why no progressive on the panel?

3. I sincerely hope Clinton has nothing to do with the party's future
He managed to ignore the working class for 8 years while wealth disparity continued at a faster clip than it had during Reagan and BushI.

He also saw access to reproductive health care serviced sharply limited thanks to domestic terrorism that went largely unaddressed.

He embraced NAFTA, GATT, and the dogma of corporate free trade without fair trade, setting up the conditions for the most rapid job loss this country has seen since 1930.

He failed to dangle conservative programs in front of congress as a way to get them to vote in universal health care. His plan was terrible, but it was something and possibly a stepping stone to national health as insurance companies rebelled and pulled out of markets.

In short, his rule was fiscally responsible at a national level, but in a manner that was pro corporate and antilabor. The DLC has offered the party base exactly nothing. Since no conservative has ever managed to admit he was wrong about anything, that is likely to continue.

I'll skip the program. He's history. If he can carve out a place in the way Carter did, then history will be kind to him. If he thinks he can bully the party back into conservatism, then history will not be kind.

10. Seconded.
Whether or not Clinton was naive and genuine about thinking some of these acts would be good... nope. They are not - or have been misused. Especially the DMCA and COPA; so many ridiculous lawsuits have been made, especially thanks to the DMCA. (the Lexmark toner case being one of my faves... or was it HP? As if I care, it was a frivolous lawsuit regardles...)

He balanced the budget and seemed sincere about world peace; but for most things, especially looking back, he was not as wonderful as we hoped him to be.

6. They are not the only two who get to decide the party's future.
They can say what they think it will be, but the good thing now is the party's future is wide open...and we are not tied down to just one possibility.
