DCTV's "Baghdad ER" Documentary Wins Four Emmys
The documentary film, "Baghdad ER" was awarded four Emmys at the Prime Time Creative Arts awards ceremony on Saturday. The documentary chronicles life in the emergency room of the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad's Green Zone. It was produced by filmmakers Jon Alpert, Matt O'Neill and Lila Yomtoob of Downtown Community Television. We want to congratulate our colleagues Jon Alpert, Matt O'Neill and Lila Yomtoob, filmmakers here at Downtown Community Television in the firehouse building where Democracy Now's studios are located.

Their film "Baghdad ER" just won four Emmys at the Prime Time Creative Arts awards ceremony on Saturday. The four Emmys are for Directing, Cinematography, Sound Editing and Merit.

"Baghdad ER" aired on HBO in May. The documentary chronicles life in the emergency room of the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad's Green Zone during a two-month period last year. The film caused controversy because of its graphic footage of soldiers suffering from, and in some cases dying, from their war wounds. In the run-up to its premier, the Army surgeon general warned military-personnel it could cause post-traumatic stress disorder, while the Secretary of the Army asked HBO to delete some footage from the final cut.

1. That was DEFINITELY a Four-Emmy Documentary.
It's reassuring that quality works of passion and skill can still receive the appropriate recognition in today's insane world.

The Documentary is required viewing for anyone who "thinks they have an opinion" on the war in Iraq. That opinion might change.
