What happens when a big stinkin' fish comes to my small pond...
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 09:48 AM by Lisa0825
Or at least... is rumored to come... Tom Tancredo was invited Texas City this weekend, as special guest of Ron Paul, but apparently he didn't make it.

http://news.galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=dcc...

I wasn't able to attend the event, because I was busy (along with PDittie, WestHoustonDem, and Smarty Pants Liberal) at Camp Wellstone up in Houston. But on my way home, I needed to stop and pick up a few groceries, and it seemed like it was right around the time that the Ron Paul event wrapped up, because Kroger seemed to be overwhelmingly filled with white male senior citizens in starched shirts and with VERY bad attitudes. I noticed the attitudes way before I made the connection to the event.

They bitched about enough registers not being open, lines moving slowly, etc. They scowled and growled. I got up to the cashier, and I saw a likely suspect at the next cashier buying at least a dozen fancy frozen pizzas, the kind that are supposed to be just like restaurant style, and he barked that he wanted them in the bags "horizontally only."

I could tell the young, Hispanic-looking male bagging the groceries already looked put off and possibly intimidated, just from the barking orders from this grumpy old man. Maybe the kid didn't hear him well. Maybe he was deaf, maybe English was his second language. I don't know, nor could I ASSUME from how he looked, why he *gasp* attempted to put such VALUABLE frozen pizzas VERTICALLY into a bag!!!

The pathetic sourpuss geezer YELLED at this poor, intimidated teenage kid, "I TOLD YOU HORIZONTALLY YOU DAMN IDIOT! I BET YOU DON'T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH!"

My jaw dropped.

I said to my cashier, quite loudly, "What a RUDE jackass! Did you hear what he said to the sacker? He's lucky he's over there, or I would have slapped the jerk for treating that boy so badly!" he probably couldn't hear me... maybe he had a hearing aid.... or maybe HIS English wasn't so good.

My own sacker said to me, "Yeah, for some reason there's a lot of jerks like him here today."

I replied, "That's what happens when Republicans come to town." He looked confused. "I said an event just finished and the old geezer was wearing a Ron Paul sticker on his shirt. I said be careful when you see those. You never know when they might explode!

1. puffy pink faces gnarled into scowls
no sexuality whatsoever emanating from their being, no gracefulness, no tact: speckled white frothy spittle gathered in the corners of their mouths.

3. Then again, would you WANT sexuality to emanate from their beings?

2. That's a great thing you said there, Lisa.
Even without the politics, nobody sticks up for retail clerks when they're abused by customers in most cases.

4. I've never been a sacker or cashier...
but I've done my time waitressing and in other customer service jobs. I always try to give encouragement when I see someone getting hassled. I know it always made me feel better when people did the same for me back in the day.

11. I was a grocery "bag boy" decades ago .. at a Kroger's.
We had a great retaliation for such boorish behavior. As we carried the asshole's groceries to his/her car, we palmed a box cutter. As we carefully set each bag into the trunk or the rear of the '59 Buick station wagon, we slid our palm under the bag and left a nice long slice. We never had to worry about being sycophantic for tips because nobody ever tipped bag boys in the South back then.

Once the groceries were "safely" loaded, we left them with a seething "Good Day Sir/M'am," forced through a lateral lisp and dripping with contempt. Then, under our breath: Asshole! I don't know of a single bag boy who ever had a complaint filed for a cut bag. My guess is that the hardcore assholes were used to it or thought all brown bags opened at both ends. Or maybe the complaints were filed and the manager was not sober enough to read them (he drank on the job).

12. KKK actually changed their name!!!
I always scowled at it as I drove by, and then last month I noticed it had a new name, though I don't recall what it is. I don't kow if it changed owners, or if it was only the name.
