4. Heard a bunch of hostage negotiators

and journalists familiar with similar situations interviewed this noontime

They also said the Muslim Sunni leader who she was enroute to interview when she was abducted was calling for her release, as was the moderate Muslim community both here and in Iraq. She is well admired for her honesty, courage and many are saying how deeply "in love" she was with Iraq and the Iraqi people.

7. "American hostage deadline passes"

A deadline set by kidnappers threatening to kill American journalist Jill Carroll unless all Iraqi women detainees were freed passed on Friday without word on the hostage's fate.

US negotiators continued working around the clock in an effort to secure Carroll's release as Muslims from Baghdad to Paris urged the militants to free the 28-year-old woman and end Iraq's wave of kidnappings.


Kidnappers issued their threat in a videotape sent to Al-Jazeera television on Tuesday. The station said the kidnappers set a 72-hour deadline for their demands to be met. As of midnight Friday Baghdad time, there was no statement from the kidnappers and no indication either detainees or Carroll had been freed.
