Typical red state hypocrisy...
...bitch and raise holy Hell about paying taxes, including diminishing your own tax base, then brag about the money you're sucking off the federal teat.

I guess the feds stop being the devil incarnate when they're signing checks to YOU, huh?

1. Not Hypocracy- they love to rip off others
The whole Shrub admin has been about ripping off the US treasury. So when the locals get a chance to do the same thing they are just copying their "leadership"

2. As property taxes go
just how long should you have to pay it? My parents have owned the same house since 1963. They have been paying about $5000.00 a year in property taxes. My dad being 74 years of age cant afford to pay that much anymore. My mom died last week and my dad would like to move down here to the awful state of Alabama where I found him a house with property taxes of about $200,00 a year. My dad comes from a blue state, but like any blue state a retiree cannot afford to live there.

4. I don't feel that property taxes are a fair tax
It's not 1855 anymore. Income tax is the fairest tax there is. That's why Republicans want to get rid of it so bad.

5. So, some heir...
...who sits on the millions and millions his family amassed at the expense of the poor and melanin-enriched over the last few centuries, a dauphin without income from a job, he would agree with you.

I'm in the state in question and have seen firsthand the results of incredibly low property taxes and let me tell you it's nothing you would want to embrace. In fact, it's decimating.

8. That's what the ESTATE tax is for
That one taxs only the lazy heir, not the old couple who is retired and doesn't have a big income anymore but has a nice house they bought with their work.

The villain that's being discussed here is PROPERTY tax, a different beast altogether.

9. The post to which I responded...
...mentioned income tax as "the fairest tax there is" and I was giving an example of when that is not the case.

11. So, he neglected the estate tax as another example of a fair tax.
In short, taxes should only happen upon wealth when it lands on somebody's hands. Makes sense.

Your tone could have used some improvement, though.

10. let me tell you the other side
My dad is a farmer pulling in 5 figures like everybody else out there. Contrast that with a doctor or lawyer pulling in 6 figures living in a house in the suburbs or better yet, a fancy apartment they rent. My dad pays one hell of alot more property tax than the suburban guy and who can more afford to pay in this situation? Then you have retired couples living off Social Security and whatever else they managed to put together for retirement (if anything) paying the same as a doctor taking in 6 figures. I admit it's more fair than some forms of taxation, but nothing close to as progressive as the income tax.

12. You're right...
...that's a flaw in the system. Of course, with the way America is phasing out the family-owned farm, that problem will grow smaller over the years.

However, in Alabama, and in Mobile particularly, you have the opposite end of the spectrum, where property taxes are almost unbelievably low and what results from such is lousy infrastructure, poor services and an educational system that rightfully meets national ridicule. Oh, and a sales tax that is about 10%.

7. Yes, but that's an issue with local and state government, not the feds
It is state governments that are the primary culprits behind the property taxes levied on people.

3. they have a disconnect between spending and taxes
spending doesn't affect taxes because we can borrow money and grow the economy and Laffer Curve, etc etc. Bridges to no where and money to guard the Uncle Morty's Petting Zoo in Muncie, Indiana from Islamic terrorists is fine, but helping a young man from Gary, Indiana go to college and make something of himself is a waste. Where are our priorities?
