The 'christian' Right is blaming Darwin for Hitler
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 09:10 AM by ck4829
"An upcoming television special produced by a Christian broadcaster that features conservative pundit Ann Coulter blames Charles Darwin for Adolf Hitler, RAW STORY has learned.

"Author and Christian broadcaster Dr. D. James Kennedy connects the dots between Charles Darwin and Adolf Hitler in Darwins Deadly Legacy, a groundbreaking inquiry into Darwins chilling social impact," announces a press release issued by Florida's Coral Ridge Ministries. "The new television documentary airs nationwide on August 26 and 27 on The Coral Ridge Hour."

"To put it simply, no Darwin, no Hitler," says Dr. Kennedy. "Hitler tried to speed up evolution, to help it along, and millions suffered and died in unspeakable ways because of it."

Fourteen scholars, scientists, and authors featured on the show "outline the grim consequences of Darwins theory of evolution and show how his theory fueled Hitlers ovens," according to the press release."

Actually, eugenics programs were started by the US.

"The first country to concertedly undertake compulsory sterilization programs for the purpose of eugenics was the United States. The principal targets of the American program were the mentally retarded and the mentally ill, but also targeted under many state laws were the deaf, the blind, the epileptic and the physically deformed. Native Americans were sterilized against their will in many states, often without their knowledge, while they were in a hospital for some other reason (e.g. after giving birth). Some sterilizations also took place in prisons and other penal institutions, targeting criminality, but they were in the relative minority. In the end, over 65,000 individuals were sterilized in 33 states under state compulsory sterilization programs in the United States.

The first state to introduce compulsory sterilization legislation was Michigan, in 1897 but the law failed to garner enough votes by legislators to be adopted. Eight years later Pennsylvania's state legislators passed a sterilization that was vetoed by the governor. Indiana became the first state to enact sterilization legislation in 1907 followed closely by Washington and California in 1909. Sterilization rates across the country were relatively low (California being the sole exception) until the 1927 Supreme Court case Buck v. Bell which legitimized the forced sterilization of patients at a Virginia home for the mentally retarded. The number of sterilizations performed per year increased until another Supreme Court case, Skinner v. Oklahoma, complicated the legal situation by ruling against punitive sterilization in 1942

...

California sterilized more than any other state by a wide margin, and was responsible for over a third of all sterilization operations. Information about the California sterilization program was produced into book form and widely disseminated by eugenicists E.S. Gosney and Paul B. Popenoe, which was said by the government of Adolf Hitler to be of key importance in proving that large-scale compulsory sterilization programs were feasible."

It started here, what influenced Hitler was the US, not Darwin.

No US eugenics programs, no Hitler.

1. Hitler was a madman
It doesn't matter what inspired him or influenced him because eventually, something would have set him off. Saying Darwin is responsible for Hitler is like saying the Wright brothers were responsible for 9/11! :eyes:

That's a good analogy - won't stop Adolph Coulter from trying to destroy this nation with hate.

'the exception to the rule'.

Listening to them you gotta kind of wonder how fast some people are devolving.

They are the logical outcome of what human beings have been doing for thousands of years. They are all about control and manipulation. We all stopped evolving a long time ago.

4. Laughing out loud
What a bunch of dumbfucks!

I mean, the eugenics stuff isn't funny. The US's movement toward eugenics was a depressing and unflattering chapter in our history -- and one that originated in progressive circles. The same people who favored racial equalilty, women voting, ending child labor, inspecting food for health standards, and reforming prisons were also the people who thought eugenics would make humanity happier.

But trying to say Darwin led to Hitler is like blaming an astronomer for a comet that's about to hit our planet. Do these idiots even read, or do they just listen to each other prattle.

5. I wonder how many deaths
could be attributed to religious intolerance? Nobody should be forced to believe anything ever. Facts should trump mythology. Would my belief in Zeus be any less credible than someone's belief in Buddah? Free will, use it or lose it. My $.02 rant for today.

6. Then the Chri$tian right should reject all medications
If the Chri$tian right does not believe in Evolution then they do not believe that mutations are possible thus medications to stifle pain or kill deadly bacteria do not exist to them therefore I say they should be denied any and all forms of medication since technically they don't believe in their ability to heal or cure.

13. Your reference to Buck v. Bell (Virginia, ca. 1927) and the so-called
"home for the mentally retarded". Let me tell you some facts. That "home" was otherwise known as the Lynchburg Training School (yes, Jerry Falwell's base of operations). It was an institution that was part mental institution, foster care system, and part poorhouse. The State sent you there when you were too poor to financially support yourself or took away your children because you were "too poor" to raise them.

Carrie Buck was the daughter of a poor woman. Carrie herself was a single mother like her mother. The State labelled her "feeble-minded" without objective tests to make such a diagnosis when in fact, all the State wanted to do was use to start a program of sterilizing poor women to keep them from having more children out of wedlock to prevent them from becoming public charges who received benefits like the 1920's version of welfare. Carrie Buck was their vehicle to get the courts to legitimize this pre-Mengele program and it was sanctioned (and to a degree "blessed") by no other than Oliver Wendell Holmes who wrote the Supreme Court decison. This legal jurist and scholar actually wrote "four generations of imbeciles is enough".

AND, these laws are still on the books, but they aren't implemented the way they used to be. They have not been decluared unconstitutional to date.

15. Hitler, like the Soviet leadership, was a Lamarkian
I have to look for it, but there is some writing by Hitler that was anti-Darwinism and pro-Lamarkism.

Soviet medicine suffered for decades because they would not let biologists use a Darwinistic approach to research.

A little off topic. I am a teacher (science) and one day I was looking at my student records and discovered that one of my student's middle name is Hitler. I thought that it might be an anglicized version of a spanish or indian word, but the student verified that it was not.

19. I had a friend with the surname
Hitlerian. Means "son of Hitler", -ian is the Armenian patronymic ending.

Her family had emigrated from Lebanon (where it had arrived as the result of forced resettling by the Ottomans).

I don't know if the patronymic was recently formed or not. But Hitler was wildly popular in much of the Levant in the late '30s and early '40s. He scored a triple-play: hate the British, hate the French, hate the Jews.

22. The fact that the religious right
is pulling this sort of shit just verifies how power-mad they've become. Under any other presidency, even that of Poppy, this kind of bold move would have been squelched by cooler heads and common sense would have prevailed.

But right now, however, under this fucked-up regime we're currently saddled with, anything the RRR does is perfectly fine. That includes motions to teach creationism, motions to suppress school topics like sex education, altering textbooks, keeping statues of the 10 commandments in front of public/federal buildings and allowing groups like this to try and cloud the minds of so many of the gullible.

It's easy to see why the U.S. has lost its superpower status and the title of greatest nation in the world. The RRR is setting us back aqbout 150 years into the stone age of the 19th century in technological, scientific and philosophic areas because of their ignorance and their intolerance.

23. What a completely idiotic premise.
Hitler was a psychopath - an extemist, and evolution had nothing to do with the atrocious acts he committed. He interred and killed Jews because they were threatening to him and his plan to take over the world; he hated their race and religion. It's NO different than what the righteous Christian extremists want to do to Muslims.

You know in genetics, blonde hair and blue eyes (which Hitler didn't have) are caused by weak, inferior genes. "No Darwin, no Hitler" is bullshit.

though I doubt Kennedy's propagandists will explore them.

Their laser beam focus is on evolution, the facts be damned.

'''''''''''''''

"One leading Protestant churchman, Bishop Martin Sasse published a compendium of Martin Luther's antisemitic vitriol shortly after Kristallnacht's orgy of anti-Jewish violence. In the foreword to the volume, he applauded the burning of the synagogues and the coincidence of the day: 'On November 10, 1938, on Luther's birthday, the synagogues are burning in Germany.' The German people, he urged, ought to heed these words 'of the greatest antisemite of his time, the warner of his people against the Jews.'"

- Daniel Johah Goldhagen from his book, "Hitler's Willing Executioners "

--

" When Luther turned his attention to the Jews, after he completed his translation of the Bible, he left behind "On the Jews and their Lies" for posterity. "

- Walter Buch, the head of the Nazi Party court

--

" Through his acts and his spiritual attitude he began the fight which we still wage today; with Luther the revolution of German blood and feeling against alien elements of the Volk was begun. "

- Hans Hinkel, a Nazi who worked in Goebbels' Reich Chamber of Culture said:

--

"Dr. Martin Luther would very probably sit in my place in the defendants' dock today, if this book had been taken into consideration by the Prosecution. In the book 'The Jews and Their Lies,' Dr. Martin Luther writes that the Jews are a serpent's brood and one should burn down their synagogues and destroy them..."

- Julius Streicher, one of Hitler's top Nazi henchman and Editor of the Notorious Anti-Semitic Newspaper Der Sturmer

===
Martin Luther
===

"In brief, dear princes and lords, those of you who have Jews under your rule-- if my counsel does not please your, find better advice, so that you and we all can be rid of the unbearable, devilish burden of the Jews, lest we become guilty sharers before God in the lies, blasphemy, the defamation, and the curses which the mad Jews indulge in so freely and wantonly against the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, this dear mother, all Christians, all authority, and ourselves. Do not grant them protection, safe-conduct, or communion with us. . . . With this faithful counsel and warning I wish to cleanse and exonerate my conscience. "

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

"He who hears this name from a Jew must inform the authorities, or else throw sow dung at him when he sees him and chase him away."

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

"However, we must avoid confirming them in their wanton lying, slandering, cursing, and defaming. Nor dare we make ourselves partners in their devilish ranting and raving by shielding and protecting them, by giving them food, drink, and shelter, or by other neighborly acts..."

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

"But what will happen even if we do burn down the Jews' synagogues and forbid them publicly to praise God, to pray, to teach, to utter God's name? They will still keep doing it in secret. If we know that they are doing this in secret, it is the same as if they were doing it publicly. For our knowledge of their secret doings and our toleration of them implies that they are not secret after all and thus our conscience is encumbered with it before God. "

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

"If we wish to wash our hands of the Jews' blasphemy and not share in their guilt, we have to part company with them. They must be driven from our country. "

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

"They must act like a good physician who, when gangrene has set in proceeds without mercy to cut, saw, and burn flesh, veins, bone, and marrow. Such a procedure must also be followed in this instance. Burn down their synagogues, forbid all that I enumerated earlier, force them to work, and deal harshly with them, as Moses did... "

If this does not help we must drive them out like mad dogs. "

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)

"Accordingly, it must and dare not be considered a trifling matter but a most serious one to seek counsel against this and to save our souls from the Jews, that is, from the devil and from eternal death. My advice, as I said earlier, is:

First, that their synagogues be burned down, and that all who are able toss sulphur and pitch; it would be good if someone could also throw in some hellfire...

Second, that all their books-- their prayer books, their Talmudic writings, also the entire Bible-- be taken from them, not leaving them one leaf, and that these be preserved for those who may be converted...

Third, that they be forbidden on pain of death to praise God, to give thanks, to pray, and to teach publicly among us and in our country...

Fourth, that they be forbidden to utter the name of God within our hearing. For we cannot with a good conscience listen to this or tolerate it... "

-Martin Luther (On the Jews and Their Lies)
