Better keep the following scheduled events in mind in the coming days:
* Provisions of the Patriot Act expire on 2/3, a Senate vote on permanent extension of domestic spying is expected next week.
* Fitz is scheduled to meet on 2/3 with the Judge to discuss progress of the Plame prosecutions; Rove is sweating blood at this point.
* The IAEA meets on 2/2 to vote on referring Iran to the UN Security Council for sanctions.
A lot of things coming together here at the same time. Better believe the White House is pulling out all the stops to spin these their way. Osama has already done his part for the home team, who's up to bat next?
Let's consider the range of outcomes:
Best case: Senate lets domestic spying provisions of Patriot Act lapse, IAEA votes to continue talks with Iran, tensions deescalate, Rove and others are indicted. The Republic redeems itself.
Worst case: Iran war hysteria leads Senate to permanent reauthorization of domestic spying provisions of Patriot Act, Rove investigation gets buried. The Supreme Court anoints Bush Emperor. World War Four starts.
Keeping fingers locked together.
