GOOD NEWS!!! 8/16/2006 Edition
As many of you know, I regularly compile a list of all the good things that have been happening in the progressive community lately. In the last few weeks, there have been so many good things going on, that this time it was relatively easy. Enjoy!

THERE ARE ONLY FOUR RED STATES!

As discussed in http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... > this thread, which gave us http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2006/50StateBushApprova... >this wonderful link, if an election were held today, President Bush would win only Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Oklahoma. In the entire South and Midwest, Bush's disapproval ratings are higher than his approval ratings.

Connecticut Democrats give Lieberman the BOOT:

side note: Pat Robertson now has believes in global warming:

http://www.beliefnet.com/story/197/story_19716_1.html

Israel/Lebanon ceasefire holds: Israel pulling out troops:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.2006...

In a Congress with a 99% incumbency rate, two GOP candidates have withdrawn from the ballot:

First, Bob Ney of OH-18 has http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/14/politics/main... >withdrawn from the ballot. Meanwhile, his replacement Joy Padgett may also be ineligible to run; upon official declaration of her candidacy, the Ohio Democratic Party will sue her butt off. In a state where the GOP is in big trouble, Padgett's departure from the ballot would almost certainly earn Zack Space a victory.

Meanwhile, in TX-22, Lampson seems set to win Tom Delay's house seat, as he is running with no Republican on the ballot, http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.nytimes.com/2006... >several Republican write-in candidates, and a Libertarian.

In NY-24, Democrats lead in the currently Republican district by 4%

Democrats lead in 5 of the 6 races needed to regain control of the U.S. Senate. Even with "Green" intervention, Casey still leads.

5. Like a breath of fresh air!
Thank you DB. It feels so good to focus on the positive after all the fear-mongering and ignorance that is the staple of our news media. The Pat Robertson turnaround on global warming is particularly uplifting...perhaps some environmental groups should be making overtures to him now, trying to get some sort of consensus going on what to do next! :) :) :)

6. Pat Robertson is a blithering idiot
The thing that convinced him: it's hot out this year.

(I'm glad he's been converted and all, I just want to point out that he's still a buffoon.)

and one who millions of people listen to religiously. If Robertson said that global warming is THE issue and that we need to get to work on it now, imagine the politcal realignment that would occur. At the very least, it would really shake up all the apologists who are enabling this administration's horrifying environmental policy.
