so why is * trying to take all the credit? This had nothing to do with the Billions we've spent on Homeland Security.

UK national gave lead to thwart plot

By Syed Irfan Raza, Munawer Azeem & Ismail Khan

ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR, Aug 11: A British national, Rashid Rauf, who was arrested by an intelligence agency provided a lead to thwart the plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights, sources said.

The sources said Rashid Rauf was father of Tayyab Rauf, a suspect who was arrested in United Kingdom last year in connection with 7/7 London train blasts.

During interrogation, the suspect unveiled the terrorism plot aiming to destroy at least ten passenger aircraft in the UK, the sources said.

They said the information was shared with the UK Home Land Security department that resulted in a raid in which 21 suspects were arrested in London on Thursday.

1. I was about to post the same
After reading this:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14314969/

Bush is trying to take credit for the Pakistani intelligence, and I don't think he mentioned Pakistan at all. Didn't he imply that it was a British/US success that this was thwarted?
Liar!

2. The media has been totally complicit. They keep hyping that we,
the U.S., somehow did something right. In fact, we had nothing to do with it and if it hadn't been for that Pakistani, this would have been successful. This should make us very afraid!

8. The point is that WE (Bush) had nothing to do with foiling this terror
plot. Proping up a dictator does not qualify us to claim credit for them lucking out in getting the info. The fact that Musharraf is Bush's buddy and that their police passed the info onto the British police may be due to U.S. policy but, other than that I don't see how you figure WE have anything to take credit for.

4. It was a joint operation
The British were watching people they suspected; when one went to Pakistan, they told the Pakistani government, who took over surveillance, and then arrested him. From the Dawn story:

Sources said the MI 5, which is responsible for operations within the UK had identified the suspect and his trail was later picked up by the ISI and Britain’s external espionage service MI 6, when he left the UK and was put under surveillance.

From The Guardian:

As it became clear that Pakistan played a pivotal role in the plot, and helped in its unmasking, British counter-terrorism officials said several of the Britons involved had visited the country two months ago, before returning to the UK.

British intelligence sources say the original tip-off about the alleged plot came more than a year ago from an informant in the UK. The informant is believed to have come from the Muslim community.

A combination of Mr Rauf's arrest, at least one intercepted message from Pakistan to Britain, and an alert from an informant here, led to Thursday's arrests, according to British security sources.

9. This man was arrested in Pakistan. It was the Pakistanis who "questioned"
him and passed the information on to the British!

6. this is a Murdoch operation
and it was setup over Blair's visit to California earlier in the month.

Blair is being threatened with an ouster, and they've sat on the Pakistani intelligence till the right time for maximum political effect.
Prince Charles and Gordon caught Murdock's henchman tapping the phones of the servants and aides to gather infomation about the timing of the ouster.

Blair and Bush, and Murdoch struck first.
