Diabetic not allowed to take Food on aeroplanes
"THis was posted at a NewZealand sports forum"

Working at Air New Zealand. Our incoming flight from LA arrived on time but took 2.5 hours to get a stand assigned from BAA. The passengers must have been loving it. On the way out our flight was ready to go on time but ended up waiting 3 hours for US clearance to depart - another bunch of passengers who would have been impressed. We had one lady who was diabetic and had food allergies so always takes her own food. Security wouldn't allow her to take it so she was forced to go 12 hours without food + the 3 hours waiting on the tarmac. All she wanted to take was a bag of popcorn. We have a meal waiting for her in LA though which she should be eating about now.

In the terminal, some people are losing the plot. Grown women having sit down tantrums, it's hard not to laugh. Police with sniffer dogs and machine guns everywhere including on the tube out to heathrow at every station. I've never felt more safe. This morning a lot of flights have been cancelled again and it's as deserted as I've ever seen it.

1. not allowing a diabetic to take food? should that woman have gone into
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:07 PM by niyad
diabetic shock, I hope she would sue everyone responsible for these ridiculous new, fear=mongering policies.

I am hypoglycemic, and if I had to go 15 hours without eating (my own food allergies are such that I cannot eat anything with preservatives, nor anything with artificial dairy. so I would be SOL, and the airline would be dealing with a woman over the edge.

2. What terrorist plot has involved food?
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:12 PM by longship
What are we talking about here?

Exploding cheese?
Can somebody really make a bomb out of Spam?
Will wheat bread really become a weapon of mass destruction?

Stop the madness!!!

Interdict terrorists, not food.
People are the problem, not tooth paste.

The very fact that this plot was exposed by direct interdiction of the conspirators and not by airport searches is a testament to how misdirected and pityful the restrictions are.

If I were a terrorist organization I would now start plotting to manufacture more plots, all of which would be entirely unreal, that would involve any number of previously innocuous items. We've already had shoes, but nobody's done any kind of other exploding clothing. How about exploding boxer shorts? Diapers would really be a good one. Maybe the best one would be explosive passports.

Then, the TSA and other airline security organizations can mandate that the only thing you can bring onboard is your naked body.

Then some terrorist organization will make a threat to hide explosives up their assholes. TSA body cavity searches are just around the corner.

Are we really ready for manditory in flight general anesthesia?

7. Hubby would have ripped arm off TSA agent
and stuffed the arm down the agent's throat. He is on insulin, and gets nasty when very hungry. Not good. Very stupid. Bad TSA, no biscuit.
