Is anyone actually buying this bullshit?
I'm sorry, I'm not buying it for one second. We've seen this countless times over the past several years. Everytime the GOP needs a boost, they trot out some "terror plot." Shopping malls, truck bombs, apartment bombs, blowing up the Lincoln Tunnel, they've come up with all sorts of scenarios to scare the bejeezus out of people.

Am I the only one who finds it highly coincidental this "plot" is revealed within a week of LIE-berman losing his primary, scaring the shit out of the GOP? With less than three months before the midterm elections, the GOP needs some sort of terror hysteria to scare the sheeple into supporting them. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about another "major plot" sometime in October. Not only that, but by trotting out these "plots" at routine intervals, they can use these to defend their continued assault on our civil liberties. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually say that part of the info came from wiretapped phone conversations.

I find it odd that most of these stories share some of the same characteristics. They always involve some Arabic Muslim men - gotta keep those boogeymen alive, right? By making the latest bunch British naturals, it helps to justify Britain's assault on its Muslim population. I'm sure we'll start seeing reports of American 'sleeper cells' pretty soon. These "terrorists" almost always have travelled to Pakistan for bomb-making lessons - because we all know how difficult it is to learn this stuff at home. And there will -always- be a connection to Al Qaeda. Hell, it didn't take very long for this latest "plot" to be linked to Al Qaeda.

Of course, the M$M is just eating this shit up. They live for this stuff, giving them a chance to bring out the talking heads, and emphasize how we're all still in mortal danger. Hell, at this rate, by the time the midterms come around, most Americans will be begging Der Fuhrer to protect them.

54. Maybe you can remind your friend that "they" were in Britain and that
"they" are in the US and that you cannot win a war based on an idea. Someone said something similar to me today when she heard about the threats and when I explained this to her she actually got it!

I think people are more open to a different explanation of what is happening now because at some level in their brains they must realize that all the fighting in Iraq is not stopping these types of groups from wanting to blow us off of the earth and in fact it is making them more pissed and more determined to hurt us. (I have a hard time with the Cheney conspiracy thing mostly because these people were captured in Britain, had been planning for awhile and....well they are actual people and I don't think Cheney would hire actors.)

8. Are you saying that a terror plot is completely out of the question?
Are you saying it is completely impossible that Al-Queda would plot a terror attack against the United States?

I'm starting to agree with a lot of people that this nation has fallen right back asleep... For some reason we have this mentality yet again that we cannot be attacked. And if we are attacked, it must be our own government behind it.

Personally, I don't believe in any of the 9/11 conspiracy theories. The only places that talk about them are the same web sites that claim the government is hiding captured alien bodies and UFO aircrafts at Area 51. It just is not credible.

19. You are dodging my question....
I asked if it is completely out of the realm of possibility that a terror plot was in action against the United States? Apparently you think that every single terror threat is a fabrication by the Bush family and the media.

I mean do you really think this is all one big global conspiracy to get more money for the Bush family? I mean come on... You know how many enemies that Bush has in the world that would love to expose that so-called fact? Why don't they? Because it isn't real. There is no evidence of it. It is a CONSPIRACY THEORY. And 99% of conspiracy theories are either fabrications themselves or out-right paranoia.

Where is your evidence to suggest this plot is "bullshit." I would love to take a look at it, please. If all you have is this feeling of paranoia against the government, guess what...you have nothing.

and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that everytime the WH or the GOP needs some bolstering, they "thwart" terrorist plots? I don't think anyone here doubts that there are people that want to hurt us, but it's the timing, jerry611. It's always prior to elections. No doubt we'll get another 'Bin Laden' tape too. Some of us are tired of the administration crying wolf and trying to push 'terra' buttons which coincidentally, benefit them.

As for not believing 9/11 theories, physical evidence of planned building demolition isn't good enough for you?

14. You have to admit the timing is suspect
Less than a week after Lamont defeats Lieberman in the primary, signalling the GOP that they're in for the fight of their lives this midterm. I think the GOP is scared shitless that if we take over Congress, both Bush & Cheney will be impeached and removed from office. Given that level of concern, don't you think they'll pull out every dirty trick they can come up with? All it would have taken is for Bush to call up British intelligence and ask a "favor" from his friends over there.

34. Turn on any radio show or right wing blog site
Lamont isnt scaring anyone... And the reason they arn't afraid is because Lieberman will probably win the general election. The Connecticut primary included only 1 out of 5 voters in that state. And all of those voters were registered Democrats that make up only 33% of the electorate in that state. Add in the independants and the Republicans, Lieberman actually has a good chance of winning. Because I think that because the Republican candidate is so far behind in the polls, most Republicans in that state are going to vote for Joe and give him money.

If Lamont was able to get 70% or more of the Democrat primary vote, he would probably win. But with only 52% of Democrats supporting him, he is going to have a problem with independants who usually do not vote for far-left candidates.

I could be reading the wind wrong. I'm just looking at the math. And the math doesn't work in Lamont's favor.

20. You don't think the British would help their ally if asked?
Besides, Tony Blair needs all the help he can get over in Britain. Nothing better to take attention away from Iraq than this "plot". Note that almost all this is coming from some supposed undercover agent within Al Qaeda.

Besides, this isn't just about Lieberman getting beat. It's about Bush possibly getting removed from the Oval Office. Make no mistake, I think the GOP is scared shitless that they will lose control of both houses of Congress. They know that Conyers has already started the groundwork for impeachment. As the war in Iraq gets worse, as oil gets higher, as the situation in the rest of the world gets more dire, the American people are getting sick of Bush. They know the ONLY way to hold onto power is through fear. The US and Britain are very close allies, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Bush called in a few favors.

23. I admit to being skeptical
Especially considering that it's the U.S.'s closest (possibly only) ally that "thwarted" the plot. On the other hand, there seems to be a lot more concrete evidence than previous vague terror alerts. On the OTHER hand (if you're an octopus, maybe) whatever happened to those guys who were arrested in FL (another close Bush connection) who were accused of planning to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago (which is where I live). There was a 24-hour news frenzy about it, including reports that the guys who were arrested didn't ACTUALLY have a plan; they were just talkin', then nothin'.

To sum up, I don't trust the MSM OR the govt as far as I can throw 'em.

It may be legit, but who knows. And that is precisely the problem. This administration has played the Terror Card for political gain so many times, it's almost impossible to know when they're telling the truth or not. Yes, I believe there are terrorists out there who would like to attack us again. Yes, I believe that another attack is inevitible. But I refuse to believe anything BushCo or his cronies over in the UK tell us. If they did indeed foil an attack, then huzzah. But I absolutely refuse to give them any credit, and I will never condone the underhanded methods they have employed.

To put it short, Bush & Blair have ruined ALL credibility they ever had.

37. Did I hear this right?
That no one was found with any explosives, but that the plotters planned to make their bombs with "liquids" purchased at the airport gift shop? If that is the allegation, it is certainly a convenient, ready-made explanation for any lack of physical evidence. It doesn't mean that the plot wasn't legitimate, but it has to make one look initially with some skepticism.

58. I'm not suggesting it is impossible
or even that it makes the story less credible. But you have to admit, if someone was going to fabricate a plot, or elevate what might otherwise be considered idle chatter into a working plan, it would certainly be a convenient way to get past the lack of evidence. When I think of the last two big "terror plots" that were uncovered, the homeless guys in Miami blowing up the Sears Tower and the guy in the chatroom in Lebanon that was blowing up the Holland Tunnel, both of those made a big splash but then fell flat when it became obvious that there was no evidence of a capacity to carry out either one. Now IF (and I am just saying IF) someone wanted to present a terror scenario that didn't garner the same ultimate response as those two alleged plots, suggesting that the bombers had the capacity to carry out the plot and were only waiting to buy and make their bombs at the airport would be one way of creating a "credible threat" without ever having to actually produce a guy who actually had a bomb.

Why travel all the way to Pakistan and attend Bomb-making 101 with an Al Qaeda agent, when you could get the info from the internet? You would think that traveling to Pakistan and actually meeting with "Al Qaeda" would be much more conspicuous, wouldnt you? This still doesnt really add up to me.

The LAST thing you want to do when you have undercover agents involved is to make a big deal out of it. If this plot was the real thing, there are going to be a LOT of dead people very soon as Al Qaeda begins "purging" its ranks of suspected informants.

61. Exactly. If it weren't political, they would've made their arrests quietly
and kept their avenues open. That recent bogus bust in Florida is another example of why this sort of media terror event is such a sham. The Bush Administration won't tell you what color socks Dick Cheney wears because of national security concerns, but they'll hold press conferences to reveal all the details of their arrest du jour. It's so transparently fake.

50. Oh, you're absolutely right!! But, it wasn't Bush.
It was Oliver Stone. Trying to dig up some additional publicity for his new movie.

:sarcasm:

60. I'm flying in about about seven hours...
...so I want to believe you. At the same time, I saw the Scotland Yard fellow on tonight and thought, well it's local police, not Tony B's poodles. And I felt like someone was actually on the job. Then I see your message...I'm going in any event. I refuse to let assholes anywhere screw up my vacation plans. Off to the "wild blue yonder." Where's Sky King when you need him ;)

68. They knew about the raid ahead of time
and planned their crass comments accordingly.

Bush was getting breifed about it a few days ago.

70. I suppose it could be true . . . but then again, it could instead be . . .
that a bunch completely innocent dupes are being set up to take the fall for someething that never happened . . .

given the BushCo record, the chances that this story is true is 50% at best -- and probably a whole lot lower . . .

71. Yeah - we are so much smarter and in the know than most folks
They are all sheep who buy the news about a terror plot. Including dem leaders, news outlets, etc and so on.

Take out some TV commercials about all this next election (mention your dem candidate of choice) and see how that plays.

Yeah - people buy it. Because there are some seriously fucked up people out there who have already attacked us before (wtc, uss cole, wtc again, etc and so on). People have seen we have been attacked. People have seen it thwarted (1999/2000 plot under clinton). They have seen Okie City attacked (and did clinton use that to get any legislation passed? I wonder....)

Evidence to most people is real - we have been attacked, told by same people we would be attacked again. Tapes from Osama, Rhetoric from Iran, and so on.

We are told we are creating terrorists by our actions, and even told by some on the left we had 9/11 coming because of our policies.

Tell me again why I should not believe it? Is it because hard working people (like my cousin) who work for the feds are out there trying to protect us day in and out are really looking for news to help bush (who is not running again I might add)? Maybe we should not believe it because a bunch of folks on a message board think it is a distraction from an election in a small state most americans really don't care about. Maybe because some folks think that anything at all in the news is related to bush 24/7 - they stop a plot, was a setup, they don't catch it in time, was a plot, etc and so on.

Maybe we all need a break from the internet and need to spend more time out in the real world with people talking - to those with views not our own. Maybe then we will find out why we are not winning.
