Ed shultz is a fake ass republicon..
who seems to be trying to be playing some type of con game on the dems. He always seems to find a way to make an excuse for bush and his republicons even when he knows its the truth. He gets angry when someone talks about lieberman and today the way to fight the war on terror. As soon as there is some type of terror threat everyone starts to get afraid and then begins to make excuses for bush and then the polls start. But today everytime someone tells him about how he has made some type of mistake he starts to make excuses and saying but...

20. Kinda true
He had a pretty popular show in Fargo on a CC station, but his syndication effort was started by Democracy Radio, via the Democratic Party (in a roundabout way). CC doesn't have anything to do with his syndicated show (save for airing him on a lot of their stations. Jones Radio Networks and a guy who used to be a big gun at CC (Randy Michaels) are the ones in charge of that.

33. Not necessarily
Neal Boortz is the only con. They also syndicate:

Stephanie Miller
Clark Howard
Bill Press
Ed Schultz

They handle mostly music formats and shows.

and pegged him as a repuke plant in the Dem party. He comes off as totally insincere. Just my female intuition. Which has been pretty damn good in my forty some years. :)

16. That's his target demographic
Not most of those who frequent DU. He is a moderate Democrat and FORMER Republican. He is reaching out to the "Reagan Democrats" demographic who go back and forth depending on the issues.

17. Big Eddie
is what some call a moderate. He has a place for those who do not eat politics. He regularly has guests such as: Kennedy, Dodd, Dorgan, and Levin on his show. I think he represents those who we need in the party.

18. I have said this before...Big Ed is a supporter of unions and
the rights of workers. He may be a moderate, but so what? We can't all agree on everything.

As long as Ed keeps supporting labor, I will keep listening.

21. Schultz is a moderate..
... with moderate yet solidly Dem views on MOST issues who is reaching the SWING voters that need to be reached.

Alex Bennett on the other hand, just pisses me off, and I can't decide if he's sincere when he claims "bloggers aren't accountable to anyone" (as if the media is accountable) and that "the kiss float is dirty campaigning". If he's serious, he's a fool.

26. If you REALLY want to bug him, call him and tell him he's a Tory and
say his show is "ok". He likes to piss people off, it gets them to call. he says he doesn't like Lamont because he's got something against cable executives. One probably turned him down for some shitty pilot he was hawking or something. Sirius is really doing a disservice to their liberal audience by keeping him and Lynn Samuels around. I'd rather they get replaced by steph miller and thom hartmann. These "original" Sirius shows SUCK! They certainly don't belong on the "left" channel.

29. Well..
.... I'm sick of Bennett and his lackey sidekick, that's for sure. He really doesn't belong on Sirius left, we should lobby to get him replaced. He's unbelievably smug as well. I don't like smug.

But here the last few days I'm warming up to Lynn Samuels. Yes, that Brooklyn or whatever it is accent is hilarious, but she's a smart cookie - a little out there at times, but I find myself agreeing with her most of the time...

32. Lynn's hard to take sometimes, but she does grow on you.
but the main reason i want to see her gone is because Thom Hartmann is SO much better. I would listen to her now and then, because she is good at times. What bothers me most is Sirius has three right wing stations and only one left station. I think there's enough contenet out there now to fill another channel. Other than AAR, I mean. I don't think they'll ever be back on Sirius.

34. Samuels is not very good, IMO
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 12:05 AM by Fighting Irish
I've tuned in a few times, and I just did not care for her.

Alex Bennett is an acquired taste. I listened to him back in the 80s when he had a phenomenal morning show in San Francisco. It was more comedy-based, and I'd stack it up against any morning radio show today. And yes, he was cranky then too, which kinda added to his appeal.

I've listened to his Sirius show, and it's a bit drier than I expected. I was a little disappointed.

One thing about Bennett is he really is a true liberal (though he may not seem like it at times). Hell, he practically invented liberal talk radio in New York back in the 60s and 70s. Very counterculture. But he isn't a DNC lackey. He just speaks his mind. His show just needs to be a little bit more exciting. Perhaps he's mellowed a bit with old age (mid-60s). I'm sure the main reason he's trashed on DU is he's not a DU-type of liberal. He is what he is. But it is fun to hear him go off on a tear about Hannity (called him "a prick") and Savage (called him lots of uncensored things). Bennett's O.K. in my book, he just needs to make his show more interesting.

He's got an archive of his better stuff on his website:

www.radiofreejack.com

Some great interviews there, too (John and Yoko, Jimmy Carter, Robin Williams, Sam Kinison, etc.)

24. Ed Shultz is a damn good Democrat
that appeals to the moderates we absolutely must have to win elections. Some people's kids here think unless you subscribe to their version of liberalism and their concept of what the Democratic Party is that you're a neocon.

Some people's kids... you wonder how they were brought up.

27. I can't stand his show
I think he's an idiot. He bloviates on and on about things he doesn't know anything about. I find it very irritating, especially since his show comes on after Thom Hartmann, who I think approaches issues in a very thoughful and meaningful manner. But I wouldn't call him a right-winger. He's a moderate who I guess appeals to moderates.

28. Well, he was clear that Lieberman is no longer a Dem after
Lieberman recited the Republican talking points verbatim (concerning terrorism & staying in Iraq).

OTOH, he is way to sympathetic to the fear mongering and I really don't need to hear that on liberal radio.

30. I agree...
It drives me nuts listening to his show. Also, he has a very right-wing style about him. He attacks people who disagree with him rather than truly discussing things. I have strong opinions, but if you have a discussion with people, you can actually learn things. He seems to be very sure that his opinion is fact.

I can see where he is good with some of the right leaning independents, but I can't stand listening to him.

31. I like Ed Schultz.
He speaks to people like my family in Indiana, in Arizona, in Illinois, and I don't believe his pro-union, pro-labor, pro-checks and balances stance does any harm to Democrats and people like me who are (arguably) left, left wing.
