Fuck this, folks. I'm calling bullshit.
Yes, I'm claiming this "terror plot" is bullshit.

Even though the "explosive cocktail" idea is very plausible--yes, you could mix up an explosive into two harmless components, then stir them together into something that is very powerful. It's called a binary explosive. No problem there.

Detonating the binary explosive with a cell phone battery? It works too.

And bringing the components onto the plane using multiple terrorists, each carrying a different part of the bomb? Well...yeah, that makes sense too.

But I notice that this huge plot was "foiled" right after Holy Joe got his ass handed to him by an antiwar candidate. I also notice that the terrorists, if such there be, were targeting Massachusetts, New York and California airports--all blue states. And that all of the plotters remain at large.

Hmm...sound like something Karl Rove would gin up on the spur of the moment? "Oh shit! We're losing! Scream TERRA real loud!"

When you visit the ATL, just don't go outside I-285 (Perimeter Highway) - it gets pretty stupid out there in the sub-suburbs.

8. Another thing...
They claim they've been aware of and investigating since DECEMBER. They could have exposed and/or squashed the plot at any point during those 8 months.

However, they chose to wait until just a few weeks before the September 11th anniversary and after the primary showed anti-war sentiment now dominant, very clearly in an attempt to make it "play well" for them (per WH aide comment, posted earlier) and to use it for political gain.

This politics of fear has got to be disemboweled now.

16. Lieberman is a side benefit to announcing this "terrorist plot" but
the real effect is that it has taken the world view OFF the invasion, attack and slaughter of Lebanese innocents by Israel and the fact that Iraq is a US failure and has descended into civil war.

That is it!

The American public should demand to know WHO was really behind 9-11. That will tell the tale on why this cabal has cried TERROR as a smokescreen.

17. I think they'll make good on this threat.....just to keep us guessing

It would serve so many purposes....

Their stated political endeavor to resurrect the security issue prior to elections.
To provide Britain an excuse to allow shipments of bombs to Israel from the U.S.
It would provide the necessary rationale (once again) for an invasion of Syria/Iran (who will no doubt be targeted as the perpetrator) and boost recruitment.
ETC.

I'm guessing we'll see some 'homemade' terrorism within a few weeks.
It worked so well last time.... :eyes:

26. If they make good on this one, Bush is toast
I know that by now we've worn out the toaster predicting that Bush will be toast over some major abomination he put together, but this one he can't weasel his way out of.

Bush claims to be the Anti Muslim Terra President. He's built his whole presidency around the theory that he's the only one who can protect us from the Evil Muslim Terrorists.

This all sounds great so long as you can forget that the single most successful Muslim Terrorist Attack that has ever been run in the history of Muslim Terrorism happened in the country George Bush is supposedly the leader of, while he was supposedly the leader of it.

Let's see...the guy has made Muslim terrorism the single-minded focus of his whole administration, and then a pack of Muslim terrorists THAT WE KNEW ABOUT running an attack THAT WE KNEW ABOUT manage to blow something up. I don't think there's a freeper in America who could stand behind George if that happened.

Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 02:23 PM by madville
Those agents hit the unarmed illegal in the face with the butt of a shotgun then when the man ran they fired 15 rounds at him, hitting him once in the buttock. The man managed to get back across into Mexico. He was driving a van loaded with 750 lbs of marijuana but I don;t think that really justifies shooting unarmed men in the back.

As far as the terrorist story being a huge conspiracy to cover up CT, that's pretty impressive that they got Pakistan to go along with it also huh. I hope the Democrats that get national media attention have enough sense not to throw that theory out there in any interviews. Paranoid stuff like that turns regular Democrat voters off, at least the ones I know.

to the 'friends of Bushco' in order that we can be safe. I believe the security sector micro-economy is doing great. Not to mention the great distraction, fear, and finger pointing opportunities that this generates.

That said, I think this time they will deliver us a 'terrorist attack', for many reasons. But the main one is that our country does NOT want to go into Syria/Iran and may need a little "incentive", as in 9/11.

41. The terrorists are supposed to have used binary explosives
From what I can gather, this is how the op was supposed to go down:

Pre-arrival-at-airport: The Terrorist family builds their binary bomb. They put part of it in Mary's makeup, part in Joanie's hairspray, part in John's aftershave. They're going to set it off with a cell phone battery.

At airport: The Terrorist family goes through security. Mary's got her makeup case, Joanie has her hair stuff, John has his shaving kit. This is typical traveler stuff, so it passes with no problems.

On plane: Joanie decides to do a little "grooming." She borrows Mary's makeup and John's shaving kit and heads off to one of the restrooms that are touching the outer wall of the airliner. After grooming, she dumps the makeup and the aftershave into the hairspray, screws on the pump, shakes it a few times to mix the contents, then attaches the timer and shoves the bomb down the toilet into the holding tank.

An hour later: the bomb explodes and causes the plane to crash into the sea.

WH Official: "Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060810/pl_afp/britainatta ...

<snip>

But Bush's Republicans hoped the raid would yield political gains.

"I'd rather be talking about this than all of the other things that Congress hasn't done well," one Republican congressional aide told AFP on condition of anonymity because of possible reprisals.

"Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big," said another White House official, who also spoke on condition of not being named, adding that some Democratic candidates won't "look as appealing" under the circumstances.

according to the Guardian, they've been monitoring this for several months:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uklatest/story/0,,-6006659,00 ...

<snip>

Details of the plot only emerged for the first time in the early hours. But police later revealed the arrests followed an "unprecedented level of surveillance" - stretching back to December last year - involving meetings, movements, travel, spending and the "aspirations of a large group of people".

71. Try this on for size
Scotland Yard did a very nice job in busting this ring. Maybe they rolled the ring up over the weekend, or late last week.

Now comes time to publicise their efforts. They were going to do it on Monday, so Bush gets a courtesy call from Blair on Sunday night.

Bush calls his advisors...Rove tells Bush to ask them to hold off for a few days.

Tuesday came. If Lieberman would have won, Bush would point to the bust as an example of his administration's successes in dealing with the international community on terra.

Lamont won, so Bush asked the Brits to act like the terra was imminent and Bush took the US to a wartime footing.

I just don't think we would have seen this reaction if Holy Joe would have won the primary.

36. That's really not the point.
I think many of the major discussions going on around here are completely missing the point.

Sure, there may be something to this "foiled terrorist plot." Just because they are constantly pissing on our feet and telling us it's raining doesn't mean that it can't actually rain.

But that's not the real issue here. The issue is not whether or not this plot is as full of crap as the MIAMI SEVEN. The issue is] that the Bush administration has once again teamed with our breathless chicken little corporate media to hype a "TERRA TERRA TERRA" story to kingdom come for strictly political reasons.

Scotland Yard may or may not have caught a bunch of dangerous would-be terrorists, and the timing of this may or may not have been orchestrated to the day. But there is one thing we know for sure, and that is that BushCo yelling "CODE RED! CODE RED! CODE RED!" about this already foiled plot was and is a calculated PR gambit. And our corporate media is, once again, more than happy to play Charlie Brown to BushCo's "TERRA ALERT" Lucy football.

It was a real operation.
The info was garnered by the SAS in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

They still believe on intelligence from human beings on the ground, not electonic "chatter"

islamists are pissed that their own government is waging a war on them with their own taxes.

Its really that simple at the bottom of it, and of course this will recruit rebellions
against the partner-of-coercion (usa - hence the 'trans-atlantic' nature)

That there be a terror plot, no suprise, that blair still stands defiant is the suprise, honestly.
He should go before V comes around to fix thins 'is bloody self...

49. If you've read 9/11 Synthetic Terror and subscribe to
the theories now emerging about LIHOP and MIHOP, you can see this British event as part of the big plan. I've been so furious all day because this could be the work of our evil empire, it's got U.S. intelligence paw prints all over it. And Tony Blair is a big part of the big plan. I hope that the truth comes out some day . . .

Karl Rove doesn't run MI6, nor does he control the media.

The world does not revolve around Connecticut.

Stop crying wolf, it's fucking annoying.

The idea is plausible.

But they would never target the same thing(s) twice.

Note this only makes sense if you aren't one of those conspiracy folks..

Your post is absurd. If all Democrats believed as you do, the public would rightly reject us in November.

65. Of course. Even if the plot were true, it's still a hoax
Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 02:27 PM by EstimatedProphet
The hoax comes in when they do a 24/7 media blitz about how everyone is now in danger from a plot that was taken care of, and how Our Leader will save us from the brown people when he wasn't involved in the first place, and how Democrats are weaklings because we didn't do any more to stop it than Republicans did.

It happens *two days* after Lieberman loses? The timing seems a bit suspect. I wish that some reporter would finally ask this question: Why do al-Qaeda's (supposed) actions always seem to benefit Bush?

75. Bush to divert $6 mil for new explosives detection technology
While the British plane-bombing suspects allegedly were planning their attacks, the Bush administration was seeking to quietly divert funds for developing new technologies that could have scanned for liquid explosives.

AP via ABC News:

While the British terror suspects were hatching their plot, the Bush administration was quietly seeking permission to divert $6 million that was supposed to be spent this year developing new homeland explosives detection technology.

Congressional leaders rejected the idea, the latest in a series of steps by the Homeland Security Department that has left lawmakers and some of the departments own experts questioning the commitment to create better anti-terror technologies.

Mr Wizard? I'm still waiting for hem to actually report on actually what bombs they were going to use. As you see, thay haven't said a word about it. The only information was bogus, it was speculation from an unnamed US official. I'm not holding my breath for the truth either.
