The airline bomb plot is NOT a distraction from Lieberman
and nor was it arranged, if a hoax it turns out to be, at Rove's request.

I am not saying it is not bullshit - it may turn out to be, and over the next few weeks we will find out. What I am saying is that even Rove could not organise something like this.

Why do I think this? Because the metropolitan police and the security services in Britain have not become politicised in the way they have in the States. The government does not control them operationally, even informally: Blair does not tell the Met what to do.

I can believe that Blair sacked his foreign minister at the US government's behest, but not this.

Things don't happen out there in the rest of the world for thier own reasons! Stop all that thinking right now.

I bet Karl made you say that, didn't he? :tinfoilhat:

I also think this knocks lieberman from the front page for a while, and that's not necessarily in bush's interest.

...that so many people here are so US-centric that they can't possibly put this event in any context other than the fucking Connecticut primary.

Fuck, if they want to help Joe, maybe they should've shut down La Guardia. Jesus Christ.

8. They had to show the TERRA is WORLD WIDE.
There was no "device," there was only "intent" and capability." They didn't even have a guy with an "Incidiary shoe."

This is such bullshit that I can scarcely gather my thoughts. I have a level of ANGER against these fools such as I never thought myself capable of.

When exactly would it "unfold"? Why do you assume we would eventually know the truth?

27. We've learned the truth about other hoaxes
Like the ricin plot that never was. It took a long time - that even got to trial, I think, but was eventually thrown out.

There was that poor DeMenezes chap who the police shot dead last year, at first they were saying all sorts of stuff about him, he had wires dangling from his rucksack, he ran from the police screaming in Arabic or something, but later on we found out that it was all bullshit.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but a plot of such major proportions was discovered by accident years after it was hatched, and by then it was too late to prevent a war.

6. I'm basically with you.
I think SOMETHING was discovered. But they admit that it was in planning stages again, don't they? If so, why are they stopping planes NOW? If was only a "plot," what makes them think it was operational today? There is a lot they're not telling us. It does seem pulling this off internationally would be tough, but remember, Bush and Blair are butt-buddies and who knows what they're capable of. I mean, the invaded a soveriegn nation on false pretenses...it's not like they've set the truth bar very high.

I think that while something indeed was discovered, I'm willing to bet the rest is a bunch of over-blown media hooey. I think it just might actually be a convenient gift to Rove at a time when he really needed one. Coincidences do still happen. And fear-mongering opportunists still run the government.

10. That would require that the metropolitan police were put under
operational control of the British government, without anybody telling us, so that they could do shit like this at the behest of the US government.

That's a conspiracy too far.

33. Do we really even know it was the Metro police?
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 09:37 AM by Atman
Think of all the wild action movies you've seen.

Think of BushCo hiring hollwood writers after 9/11 to come up with terra ideas.

Think of Valerie Plame (or any other covert op) who had an entire fake company, complete with offices and employees and products just to go under cover.

So how difficult would it be for the CIA and/or M1 (what do the call the Brits' version of the CIA?) to set up a few blokes in some Met costumes to parade around for the cameras? Even if it all comes out later, they don't think about later, they'll deal with later later. Right now, though, the trouble is NOW.

Look, I know it's all very tin-foily, but there are billions of dollars and unfathomable power at stake. Whether you want to believe it or not, massive amounts of money and power cause men to do absolutely bizarro things. I put absolutely nothing past them.

"The plot was very intricate, very well organized, very sophisticated, and international in scope" as Sosobad O'Brien just said. Yup. I'm sure it was. I'm sure it was. Apparently we want to believe that only some greasy, hooded, rifle-toting Muslim can put together a very intricate, very well organized, very sophisticated, international plot.

39. Well, yes, we do know it was the Met
because they've held press conferences, at Scotland Yard, and I don't think the Met wouldn't take very kindly to people impersonating policemen in broad daylight outside their headquarters. The same goes for the other 2 police forces who made arrests in their areas.

Whether the intelligence on the suspects is good is another matter. We don't know if they'd made anything, were just talking but had seemed too serious for them to be allowed to continue, or if the intelligence came from informers who could be mistaken, mentally ill (which appears to have been the case at Forest Gate), or plants from the CIA/MI5/whoever. If the latter, it will have been an operation of many weeks, and their chances of being able to control the exact night the police decided to make the arrests is small.

What's really laughable is the thought that it would be done to distract from the analysis of a Democratic senate primary. It's the second funniest thing I've seen on DU today (the funniest in the "Dad's Army" terror alert chart that can be found in the DU UK forum, but it will only mean something to fans of 1970's British TV).

I find the timing to be utterly amazing...the day AFTER LIEberman (R-war monger) lost his primary..and the day BEFORE bush is to start his own war monger campaign.

There was an article about how bush/Blair talked about this last month...then SUDDENLY..it becomes a major threat..causing some airlines to even go out of business.

There's always stuff happening that you could "connect" to any given event. This is conspiracy thinking at its most ridiculous: because A is connected to B and B is connected to C. Anyone can play such games. They remain openly laughable, and credible only for fanatics and lunatics.
