As I sit here listening to the British officials explain the terrorist...
threat, I am struck by how well spoken, intelligent, and on target they are. They make me feel safe, while the bumbling idiots and political hacks within our government not only make me ashamed but make me MORE frightened.

Anyone else notice this striking difference?

1. Most people do not mangle the English language the way
the idiot in chief does. Anytime he speaks it is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

9. So you think this is all lies?
You don't think there are terrorists out there who would plan and try to execute something like this? What's in it for the Brits? Why are they making this all up? Just because they like screwing with their own people?

Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 07:46 AM by malaise
Blairs MPs are ready to kick him out of office and Bushco needs some terra to frighten the hell out of the American people -elections are coming.
How gullible are people anyway. Oh and Lebanon can be bombed to oblivion without coverage on TV - on with the 24/7 terra coverage now.

I do not believe a single word of this crap. It is way too convenient for all the war criminals.

this have been thwarted that would NOT have been a "convenient" time? I mean, let's get real, no matter WHEN it happens, some one says "Oh yeah, NOW they foil a plot just to tak our attention off of x or y or z. So you tell me, when is a good time?

Every single thing that happens that people don't like, one of the first reactions is "isn't the timing convenient."

Of course with all the crap going on in the world, there's always going to be something else going on.

30. I *am* a Brit, and I'm suspending judgement for a while
if this is all bullshit, it'll come out in a couple of months. If it was real, we'll hear about that too.

A few years ago the police busted a 'plot' to poison people with ricin, which turned out to be nothing at all. And the initial reports about that brazilian guy they shot last year were all bullshit too. The truth tends to come out, but not in the first couple of days, is all I'm saying.

33. As a Brit tell me
what the Labour revolt means for Blair. This is way too convenient for both Blair and Bush.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/20...
<snip>
hn Prescott was struggling to contain a growing Labour backbench revolt last night after rebuffing demands from MPs for Parliament to be recalled to debate the crisis in the Middle East.

The demand by up to 150 MPs, mostly Labour, for Parliament to be able to discuss the Government's response to the war in Lebanon, is the first political test the Deputy Prime Minister has faced since taking charge of the Government after Tony Blair left for his Caribbean holiday on Tuesday.

John Prescott leaves his home on his first full day in charge

The rebellion spread from back-bench MPs to the ranks of ministerial advisers when Jim Sheridan, the Labour MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said that he was standing down as the parliamentary private secretary to the defence ministers.

34. Not very much
All they're demanding is a recall of parliament, which is currently on summer recess. I don't know why they're bothering, they can debate it all they want. The only country that Israel listens to is the USA.

I guess what they're bothered about most is how Blair's foreign policy involves being up Bush's arse. Not very dignified.

6. come now....
I've been around a while - you see I remember when we had at least a few intelligent individuals within our own government... maybe I'm just a little nostalgic....

particulary I was struck by the explaination that terrorism isn't a war on any religion, but basically a criminal threat that must be dealt with. At least that's the way I heard it.

18. Not really
That's why the British Army was stationed in Northern Ireland to combat the IRA vice the British police. That said, the Brits do have a lot more experience and a slightly better take on this than we may have.

Earlier I heard someone say Chertoff was going to make a speech today and I thought........Chertoff! He doesn't know anything!

If the US had done this terror alert, there's no way I would have believed them! But since the Brits are in charge of this one, I do see them as a more credible source.

with the jackasses we have in charge, we wouldn't have known about it until it had already been carried out!

At least the Brits found out about it before anything happened.

I also thought it was interesting they said that this particular investigation had been going on for a long time and will likely continue for a long time too.

so many succesful terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11, right? Come one, give the intel community some credit; no successful attacks in the US for almost 5 years. It's not as if the bad guys havn't been trying.

21. That's a pile of crap
And a nice talking point. There haven't been terror attacks on US soil since 9-11 for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that the planning of such things take time. Time they are perfectly willing to bide.

So, after the WTC attacks in 1993 there were no terr... oops, FOREIGN, terrorist attacks on US soil until 2001. So Clinton was doing a GREAT job, wasn't he? And all without a loss of basic rights to American citizens. I'm a little worried about the loss of habeus corpus to US citizens bushco is trying to pass. Why don't they shit all over the bill of rights while they're at it.

The bumbling, inept fools we have running our government couldn't stop a ten year old from lifting a snickers. And I don't believe a word they say. About anything. They could say the sky is blue and I'd wait until I saw it with my own eyes to believe it.

32. I don't buy this "planning takes time" meme...
because while it may take a while to teach some guys to fly a plane into a building, most of the nasty things they could do don't take much time or planning at all:

1. Buy explosive stuff

2. Take it where there's a lot of people

3. Set it off

Don't we have enough of our own homegrown assholes doing this?

And just how long did it take to catch the Unabomber anyway?

Seems to me that the main reason we haven't seen all these terra attacks is simply because most of them aren't all that interested in actually attacking.

35. who knows if they've been trying?
there was a 7 year lag between the two World Trade Center attempts. AQ does major, big strikes, spaced out over time. these attacks take major time and planning, especially from the other side of the world.

plus, they don't need to strike the US, we're doing a fine job fucking it up by ourselves.

But I trust the British Press to ask the right questions....and to investigate properly.

As to John Reid's Press Conference......it looks like he is rather enjoying being the center of attention and not saying a damned thing.

To keep people in a constant state of fear, which is the most upsetting of emotions. The best way to counteract this is to be in peace.
