Draft Gore: How YOU can help
Thank you very much for signing Draft Gore's petition asking Al Gore to run for president. Thanks also for your many touching comments, which makes this petition extra special. We want all these voices and pleas to be heard, and for that we need your help. As you may know, Draft Gore was the only political action committee fighting at the national level for a Gore candidacy in 2004, and we're back now.

Many of you wrote and offered your assistance, and we will try to reply to each email as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we need to ask for your help now. There's a growing tide of support for a Gore candidacy, but we need to be organized effectively to turn this support into a national movement. There's a lot to be done, but these are two very important first steps:

(1) Please forward our petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/algore2008/) to AT LEAST one friend or family member. If possible, go through your address book and try to find as many people as possible, or post on any boards or blogs that you visit. But even one person can make a difference. We're getting close to 5,000 signatures now. If each of you were to ask just one other person to sign, we'd hit 10,000 overnight, which would give us the kind of numbers we need to make our case to the media. Please take a few minutes of your time to get word out about this effort.

(2) Please consider making a contribution to Draft Gore. Anything you can afford will be much appreciated. We're truly a grassroots effort, which is how we want it. We still believe in an America where the people can make a difference.

Contributions to Draft Gore go towards promotional efforts, such as advertising, printing, media outreach, polls, web technology, supplies, and more. Our expenses are great, and our only source of support is YOU.

You can contribute safely with PayPal by filling out the form at:

http://www.draftgore.com/contribute.htm

Or you may send a check or money order to:

Draft Gore Committee
1928 Brevard Road
Hendersonville, N.C. 28791

Over the next few weeks we'll start organizing at the local/regional level and we'll be in touch about how you can get involved. All your emails inquiries are much appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

The Draft Gore Committee

P.S. Please to not hit "reply" for correspondence, but email instead to [email protected].

1. I signed it last month.
The mess this president will leave for the next one makes me wonder why anyone would want the job.
Gore is the best candidate and I am sure he won't run unless he knows the people are with him.
By all means let's draft him.

8. The man doesn't want to run. He's said so repeatedly.
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 12:23 PM by MercutioATC
This was tried in 2004 with much effort expended, but zero results.

Can't we just let Gore make his own decisions??

9. He didn't say that. His answer is always "I have no plans to run."
Very big difference.

11. So have other possible Dem candidates
Until any of them says they will absolutely not run what is the harm in encouraging them?

15. Each (potential) candidate is representative of issues of our concern
Each time a person expresses interest in a particular candidate they are contributing to the Democratic Party in invaluable ways. They are letting their voices be heard. Potential Democratic candidates for president are rarely mentioned with an explanation as to why that particular poster expressed what has piqued their interest in that person. For instance, some people prefer Clark and cite his military experience; some people express an interest in Kerry and they cite his overall record; some people express interest in finding someone completely new and then give their reasons. In the end, we may not always agree as to whom we believe would be a good candidate but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

More importantly, whenever someone evinces an interest in a potential candidate they are also expressing an opinion about particular issues of relevance to all of us. In my mind, Gore is closely associated with the environment and stolen elections, while Edwards is associated with fighting poverty and when I think of Dean I think grassroots and change. So, when I see someone advocating a potential candidate I read their posts. I'm willing to keep an open mind and listen to what others have to say.

With all this said, I would support a Gore candidacy without any hesitation.

19. No one makes money or a name for themselves by doing that
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 11:38 AM by RestoreGore
And yes, as a loyal supporter of the man, I agree. Let the man do what he believes is right either way! They didn't want to fight for him when we had him... but the great thing is, we still do have him with us only it isn't how THEY want him. Too bad I say. If they can't get behind him now unless he runs for something in this BS system, then they really don't support him.

18. You weren't the only group

http://www.patriotsforgore.com

We stayed true to Al Gore and even endorsed him for President after you quit after he endorsed Dean. We stuck to our convictions when you accepted the status quo instead of staying to fight for what was right. Now we stand with Mr. Gore and his fight against this climate crisis. But again, instead of truly standing with Al Gore, you expect people to send you money for a draft he may never accept. Why would you even ask for money before the November elections? Haven't you been keeping up with his appearances? Even in the Bergen Record in NJ on June 23 he was quoted as saying, " I miss the ability to influence events, but I don't miss politics."

Will those who donate to this now instead of using the money and energy to support something concrete now get their money back? I didn't in 2004 when I belonged to Draft Gore 04, when I wasn't even given a thankyou for my participation after you folded the day after he endorsed Dean. Why are you then wasting money on ads for this now when we face a climate crisis that needs all of us to act now? Why won't you honor Mr. Gore's wishes of standing with him in that fight now? Instead, you use his work on this issue to get donations to do what this time that you didn't the last?

The environment wasn't even important to the Draft Gore 04 movement, and I know that firsthand. Al Gore has also stated numerous times that he has no plans to run and he rejected the call to a draft in 2004. He is now even more committed to this mission of the climate crisis and knows what bringing that truth to the people entails, so again, why are you not joining with him in that? Why would you ask him to go back to a political system of the corporate/military complex that already stole it from him once, when he can do so much for the people out here? Is it the people and country you care about, or getting publicity?

For those who didn't belong to this last draft movement, be warned. If it is anything like the last one, it is an ego contest and an attempt by some to persuade someone who has already claimed he has no intentions of running, probably because when these groups were needed to really stand up for him they disbanded out of fear of the very system they now claim to be fighting, while calling those who remained to even go so far as to tell Congress to restore his stolen term, crackpots.

Sorry, but you had your chance in 2004 and you blew it. We all blew it, and I'm basically done with drafts. I have complete faith in Mr. Gore to know his own heart, and to know when and where the time would be right to ever enter this TOXIC political system again if he so chose to. I personally believe it would suit this great man much better if all of us pulled our resources together to help him get out the truth about this crisis we now face before that window on our planet closes even more, rather than spinning our wheels in some draft movement that didn't go anywhere before. Al Gore learned a great lesson from what happened in 2000, and so did I and many others. If you aren't going to stand up to change the status quo system you want him to run in first, then I have better things to do with my time this time around.
