Joe says everyone else in the party is "So far out of line with America."
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 08:26 AM by Atman
He actually said something like, "I'm afraid that the democratic party will become so far out of line with real American values that we'll never win another election."

Hmmmm. I wonder, Joe, who is more in line with with "real America?" The wealthy New Englander and Washington insider who spends more money on a pair of cufflinks than most of us spend on our monthly car payments, or those of us struggling to make those monthly car payments? That is, if we can even afford a late model car at all. Joe doesn't have a freakin' clue what is going on with "real Americans" any more than Poppy Bush did when he walked into a grocery store and was amazed to see scanners for the first time. Joe doesn't know jack about what Americans, or especially democrats, want.

1. Every day in every way Joe is becoming Zell Miller
I will say, honestly, I don't have the depths of hatred for Joe that many here have - I am a moderate myself and understand the need to work with the other side (no matter how that pisses off ideological purists). That said, it's one thing to work with the other side and another to turn on your party, as Joe has repeatedly done. We might have honest disagreements on how best to proceed. But when you walk to other side and join them in the finger pointing, well, you aren't on my side anymore.

8. I respect your current opinion, but didn't you realize what he was doing
before now? He's been on the other side of the aisle and pointing for the last 6 years. Did you not notice?
He's only doing it officially as a nondemocrat now. Before, he was a traitor WITHIN our ranks. Now, still a traitor, just that he's stepped outside the ranks because the ranks didn't want him anymore.

11. No he hasn't
That's a distortion of the history, unless you believe he purposefully threw the debate with Cheney (as some do). But most of his actions aren't that far out of line until you get up to 2004.

I suppose it also depends on how far left you are; he's always had a fair disdain for the far left.

15. you mean I'm distorting when he admonished anyone who
disagreed with the president, "at their peril"?????
I"m distorting that he became part of the gang of 14 and voted for cloture on...you know what, not worth getting into. If you have to insist he wasn't working against the party before now, I withdraw my respect for your current opinion.

okeydoke, then.

17. You said 6 years - that comment
about disagreeing with the president at their peril was in the last few months. Let me look it up. December 6 2005. That was, for the record, a reprehensible comment, and one of the turning points that showed just how far he'd drifted from his party.

Condeming Joe of 2001 is condemning pretty much all party moderates, which as a moderate, I'm not keen on.

19. if you want to say condemning Joe is condemning all moderates
then I would point out that is a conclusion you yourself jumped to. If you wish to take umbrage at that, its your fault if you do.

2. Hey, Liarman....
Since when did "real" American values include invading countries that presented no threat to us?

When did "real" American values include torture?

When did "real" American values include blatant war profiteering?

If these are "real" American values, I'm moving to Mexico!

3. Yes, watched him on GMA while getting ready for work
What a pompous windbag. Essentially saying Lamont's victory belongs to the extremists. Says we need bipartisanship, and that Lamont's victory is not what the Democratic party should be about.

I could have thrown a brick through the TV. The man doesn't get it. I guess the majority of Democratic voters in Connecticut are extremists. What a clueless asshole.

7. 60%+ opposes the war in Iraq.
80%+ opposed the Terri Schiavo intervention.
An overwhelming majority supports universal healthcare.

Who is the extremist, Joe?

10. 86% of Democrats oppose Iraq war; poll on CNN this morning.
How much more out of touch with your party can one possibly be? He is trying to appeal to 14% of the base? And thinks he'll WIN? Joe is a nutcase.

9. Yeah, Joe
Everyone is an idiot except for you. You must be absolutely perfect in every way, every day. Why, we must be too thick to comprehend why snuggling up to Bush is a wonderful thing that should be celebrated by all Dems across the land.

I say good riddance. Just go away. Do your little "I'm running as an independent" pouty dance, and then just STFU.

14. I'm so sick of this lame line
"Out of line with America."

So in other words, we are all to be sheep and make sure that all of our thoughts are "in line" with the rest of the country or we are to be ashamed.

What a steaming heap of anti-democratic bullshit.

18. He is NOT running as an Indi. He's a "petitioning candidate."
In Connecticut, he can do that without changing his formal party designation. If he wins in November, he'll still be a Democrat, and thus will be in line for plumb committee seats, like HOMELAND SECURITY. Do any of us really Joe overseeing our security in any way? Puh-leeze.
