Reporters attacked by US troops...
In at least six separate incidents since June, Iraqi reporters said they had been physically beaten, had their equipment confiscated and been falsely accused of "terrorism".

Saman Fakhri of the Iranian-owned Al-Alam satellite television station said the assaults were intended to stop journalists reporting properly on rising levels of violence in Kirkuk.

Colonel David Gray, commander of the 101st Airborne brigade stationed in Kirkuk, said he was aware of "a few" assaults on journalists and expected compensation would be paid to at least one Associated Press reporter who had cameras deliberately smashed by American forces at the scene of a bombing.

1. Must be slipping
Minute an unembedded reporter is spotted, they end up shot.

Before anyone starts, the Pentagon pretty much spelled that out as policy before the war

2. No surprise.
this and so many other things have been covered up all over the world just to protect the pile of shit in the white house. There is more to come now some feel that it is safe to let out some of the information.

5. Especially with elections approaching, Bush can't afford civil war news
because he would have to pull the troops out immediately, that's why "Condi" insists the generals comments regarding Iraq approaching civil were taken out of context - Bushco is building 14 permanent bases and a US. Embassy as big as the Vatican, Bush will do whatever he can to "STAY THE COURSE"

9. Col Gray obviously does not understand
He complains that some of the people with cameras might not be "accredited" journalists.

So effing what?! If they're posing as journalists to get close and cause harm that's one thing but the Col isn't complaining about that he only wants "accredited" journalists.

Sorry that's not how it works. Freedom of the press doesn't mean you get to decide who is and is not part of the press and it also goes hand and hand with the basic human freedom of movement. Anyone can do - let's call it 'on the spot journalism'.

Yes indeed the insurgents and terrorist groups using propaganda but Freedom of the press means the people get to decide who is credible and who isn't not the government and certainly not the military.
